The average Christian knows about a church where he/she would feel comfortable because of the
Internet, i.e. the computerized television screen; and they can travel a long distance to worship
because of transportation, i.e. the Interstate.
GIFT GRAVITATION
How did "gift colonization" happen? It came about by "gift gravitation." Many don't
have a rational reason why they choose a Renewal Church or a Liturgical Church. They just
know what makes them feel comfortable. The need to exercise their own spiritual gift creates
pressure-a kind of internal disequilibrium, driving them toward the church where their gift is
honored and exercised by others, and where they are appreciated for exercising their gift. This
internal pressure is called "gift gravitation."
GIFT ASSIMILATION
The final factor explaining the current emergence of the six types of churches is "gift
assimilation." Christians choose a church worship style, but may not be able to explain why. A
person enjoys the excitement of The Evangelistic Church. They begin attending and join the
church, but they don't have the spiritual gift of evangelism. But that gift begins to grow (I Cor.
12:31, Rom. 1:11, I Tim. 4:14, II Tim. 1:6). The sermons on soul-winning build a desire to win
souls. The example of people going to the altar to accept Christ adds to their personal desire.
Perhaps the person takes a course on personal evangelism. All these experiences build in
him/her a spiritual ability to win souls to Christ. Their spiritual giftedness of evangelism grows.
