SUMMARY
This book is about American worship, not a description of what is happening around the
world. Because worship is an expression of the innermost heart of individuals and the corporate
expression of the church body, and because America has a different culture than other people in
the world, then we would expect Americans to express their worship differently, in different
types of buildings, with different musical instruments in different languages and dialects.
This book is about America now, not our past, and I don't know what will happen in 25
years. It's not an historical study, and it's not a book on methodology, i.e. how to conduct
worship.
I do not approve of everything I said in this chapter. I don't like the consumerism of `the
world and its influence on the church. Some of you don't like it either. The world does not have
the culture we grew up expecting, and the church is not the church for which many of you were
trained.
