Whereas nectarines,
peaches and plums lost
market share.
British consumers last year acquired -
according to TNS data up to 22nd April
2007, a total of 124.1 million units of
stone fruits (apricots, cherries, nectarines,
peaches and plums) for a value of
331.8 million pounds, which signifies
a fall of 7% in volume with respect to
same period of the previous year, but
in contrast, an increase of 7% in prices.
In terms of categories, it is necessary to
emphasize that all the fruits registered
increases in their invoicing in relation
to the preceding period, which ranged
from the +16% of the apricot, +15% of
the cherries, +8 of the nectarines, to
the +4% of the plums or the +1% experienced
by the peaches. In volume
however, it is necessary to distinguish
between two distinct groups. The first,
formed by apricots and cherries, registered
an increase in consumption of
+16 and +8%, respectively; whereas
the second group, formed by nectarines,
peaches and plums saw its sales
descend (- 13%, -17% and -5%, respectively).
To emphasize, for another year,
the cherries sales maintained the increase
that they have registered from
past seasons. The promotional campaigns
realised in the British market,
as well as the care taken in product
selection for the United Kingdom, especially
from Spain, is bearing fruits.
However, nectarines and plums are
the stone fruit varieties that achieve
greater presence in the British shopping
basket.
Mientras, nectarinas, melocotones y ciruelas perdieron cuota.
Los consumidores británicos han adquirido
en el último año –según datos
TNS-, hasta el 22 de abril de 2007, un
total de 124,1 millones de unidades de
frutas de hueso (albaricoques, cerezas,
nectarinas, melocotones y ciruelas)
por un valor de 331,8 millones de
libras, lo que supone una caída del 7%
en volumen con respecto al mismo periodo
del año anterior, pero contrastada
con una subida también del 7% en
precios. Por categorías, hay que destacar
que todas las frutas registraron
aumentos en su facturación, que van
desde el +16% del albaricoque, +15%
de cerezas, +8 de nectarinas, hasta el
+4% de ciruelas o el +1% experimentado
por los melocotones, en relación al
periodo precedente. Pero en volumen,
hay que distinguir dos grupos. El primero,
formado por albaricoque y cerezas
registró una subida en el consumo
de un +16 y +8%, respectivamente;
mientras que el segundo grupo, integrado
por nectarinas, melocotón y
ciruelas vio descender sus ventas (-
13%, -17% y -5%, respectivamente).
Destacar, un año más, el aumento
sostenido que vienen registrando las
ventas de cerezas en los últimos ejercicios.
Las campañas de promoción en
el mercado británico, así como la cuidada
selección del producto que llega
hasta Reino Unido, especialmente
desde España, está dando sus frutos.
No obstante, nectarinas y ciruelas son
las variedades de fruta de hueso que
más presencia tienen en las cestas de
la compra británicas.
