ABSTRACr. The specific activity of carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1 (CPT-I) was simi<strong>la</strong>r in mitacharadria<br />

isa<strong>la</strong>ted fram rat Fao and human HepG2 heparama celís arad from rat hepatocytes, bur almost 2-foid<br />

higber in permeabilized hepatoma celís thara ira permeabilized heparocytes. Short-rerm exposure ta akadaic<br />

acid induced a ca. 80% stimu<strong>la</strong>tion of CPT-I ira hepatocytes, whereas no significant response of the enzyme<br />

from hepatoma celís was evi<strong>de</strong>rat. Thus, libe high CPT-I activir>’ disp<strong>la</strong>yed by hepatama celis may be<br />

reached by hepatocyliesupan challerage ta okadaic acid. The present data may be exp<strong>la</strong>ined by a disruption<br />

of irateractioras beliweera CPT-I arad cytoskeletal componerats ira tumor celís wbicb may be involved ira lihe<br />

okadaic acid-induced activatian of hepatie CPT-I as previausly suggested [BiochemBiophys Res Commun<br />
