M. SEARCHESAuthorized school personnel having reasonable grounds may search students, lockers, <strong>and</strong>vehicles. A search <strong>of</strong> a student includes the student’s clothing being worn or carried, pockets,books, duffel bag, backpack, book bag, or any other container used by the student <strong>for</strong> holding orcarrying personal belongings <strong>of</strong> any kind. Lockers are the property <strong>of</strong> the school district <strong>and</strong> maybe searched at any time. Any vehicle parked in a school zone is subject to a complete search byschool authorities <strong>and</strong> assisting law en<strong>for</strong>cement personnel. Illegal materials found as a result <strong>of</strong>a search may be used as evidence against the student in disciplinary, juvenile, or criminalproceedings.N. PUBLIC DISPLAY OF AFFECTIONThe public display <strong>of</strong> affection can be embarrassing <strong>and</strong> infringe on the rights <strong>of</strong> others. It canalso be demeaning to the individuals involved <strong>and</strong> is inappropriate in school. Caressing, walkingwith arms around each other, kissing, <strong>and</strong> similar behavior in school is inappropriate <strong>and</strong> will resultin disciplinary action.O. CLASSROOM LANGUAGEThe <strong>Lebanon</strong> <strong>School</strong> District certifies that the District values <strong>and</strong> affirms an individual's right touse his or her own language. During class time, students are expected to respond <strong>and</strong> toparticipate in English to the extent possible. However, in the hallways, in the cafeteria, at othernon-academic school functions, there are no restrictions on language used, as long as it isappropriate (i.e. no pr<strong>of</strong>anity).P. STUDENT ASSISTANT PROGRAMThe "<strong>Student</strong> Assistant Program (SAP)" program is a way to identify high-risk teenagers withschool-related problems because <strong>of</strong> alcohol/drug use, risk <strong>of</strong> suicide, <strong>and</strong> other mental healthproblems. It is a systemic process <strong>for</strong> intervening <strong>and</strong> referring at risk students to appropriatecommunity services. SAP is an intervention, not a treatment program. The heart <strong>of</strong> the programis a student assistance team, comprised <strong>of</strong> school personnel who have been specially trained towork with troubled <strong>and</strong> at risk students.Q. STUDENT IDENTIFICATION PHOTO CARDSAll students will be issued a student photo identification card. <strong>Student</strong>s are expected to carrythese cards with them during the school day <strong>and</strong> at after school activities. <strong>Student</strong>s arerequired to show their ID cards to LHS personnel. Refusal to show an ID to a staff member mayresult in disciplinary actions <strong>for</strong> insubordination.R. STUDENT LOCKERSThe <strong>Lebanon</strong> <strong>School</strong> District, administrators, <strong>and</strong> teachers are not responsible <strong>for</strong> articles lost orstolen from any locker. Lockers are <strong>for</strong> school purposes <strong>and</strong> are subject to inspection by theschool administration at any time.<strong>Student</strong>s should not share lockers or reveal locker combinations to other students. <strong>Student</strong>s areresponsible <strong>for</strong> all items found in their assigned locker.23
