LOST TEXTBOOKS AND DAMAGE TO SCHOOL PROPERTYTextbooks are purchased for the use of pupils at public expense. Each book is stamped on theinside of the front cover and will list the condition of the book, the date of issue, and the nameof student to whom it has been loaned. Pupils are responsible for loss of, or damage to, schoolbooks and school property. Pupils should report lost books to the teacher of the subject and alsomake inquiry at the lost and found department in the office.1. Lost books are a student obligation.2. If books are found, the money will be refunded.3. Cost to repair damage to school property will be responsibility of the student.4. Vandalism may result in a fine up to $500.00.A school official will determine the price for lost books and school property damage.L. MEDICATION GUIDELINESPlease adhere to the following guidelines regarding medications to be administered in the schoolor on field trips:1. The school nurse, building secretary, or other designated school employee may administerprescribed medication if it is sent to school in the original container (with the child’s name,dosage, the time for administration, and the doctor’s name clearly marked on it.)2. Before any medication may be administered to a student during school hours, the studentmust have a written request from a parent or guardian granting permission for medicationadministration. If it is necessary to take medication during school hours, please completethe MEDICATION PERMISSION SLIP found at the end of this handbook. This formmust be filled out and kept on file in the school. A physician’s medical note must also besubmitted with this form.3. It is recommended that parents refrain from sending medication to school whenever possible.Administer required dosage to children before and after school, and at bedtime wheneverpossible.4. Students taking daily medication throughout the school year require a written order from theprescribing physician. It shall include the purpose of the medication, the dosage, the timeand/or special circumstances under which the medication shall be administered, and the datesfor which the medication is prescribed and possible side effects of the medication.5. Over the counter medications may be administered with a doctor’s note only. Schoolpersonnel cannot administer medicine not in its original container.6. Students must hand all medications and permission forms to the school nurse or the buildingsecretary. Students are not permitted to carry any form of medication on their person unlessthey have a written order from their physician.7. If it is necessary to distribute medication during a school sponsored field trip, the schoolnurse shall insure that the person/persons responsible for the supervision of the child shallbe notified of the following: child’s name, child’s parent/guardian, date of field trip, name ofmedication, dosage, and frequency and/or time to be administered.22
M. SEARCHESAuthorized school personnel having reasonable grounds may search students, lockers, andvehicles. A search of a student includes the student’s clothing being worn or carried, pockets,books, duffel bag, backpack, book bag, or any other container used by the student for holding orcarrying personal belongings of any kind. Lockers are the property of the school district and maybe searched at any time. Any vehicle parked in a school zone is subject to a complete search byschool authorities and assisting law enforcement personnel. Illegal materials found as a result ofa search may be used as evidence against the student in disciplinary, juvenile, or criminalproceedings.N. PUBLIC DISPLAY OF AFFECTIONThe public display of affection can be embarrassing and infringe on the rights of others. It canalso be demeaning to the individuals involved and is inappropriate in school. Caressing, walkingwith arms around each other, kissing, and similar behavior in school is inappropriate and will resultin disciplinary action.O. CLASSROOM LANGUAGEThe Lebanon School District certifies that the District values and affirms an individual's right touse his or her own language. During class time, students are expected to respond and toparticipate in English to the extent possible. However, in the hallways, in the cafeteria, at othernon-academic school functions, there are no restrictions on language used, as long as it isappropriate (i.e. no profanity).P. STUDENT ASSISTANT PROGRAMThe "Student Assistant Program (SAP)" program is a way to identify high-risk teenagers withschool-related problems because of alcohol/drug use, risk of suicide, and other mental healthproblems. It is a systemic process for intervening and referring at risk students to appropriatecommunity services. SAP is an intervention, not a treatment program. The heart of the programis a student assistance team, comprised of school personnel who have been specially trained towork with troubled and at risk students.Q. STUDENT IDENTIFICATION PHOTO CARDSAll students will be issued a student photo identification card. Students are expected to carrythese cards with them during the school day and at after school activities. Students arerequired to show their ID cards to LHS personnel. Refusal to show an ID to a staff member mayresult in disciplinary actions for insubordination.R. STUDENT LOCKERSThe Lebanon School District, administrators, and teachers are not responsible for articles lost orstolen from any locker. Lockers are for school purposes and are subject to inspection by theschool administration at any time.Students should not share lockers or reveal locker combinations to other students. Students areresponsible for all items found in their assigned locker.23
