6. Parental Neglect – includes the following: no documentation received from parent, illness infamily, oversleeping, <strong>and</strong> babysitting.7. Illegal Employment - student is employed during school hours.8. Truancy - habitually absent from school without valid excuse or reason <strong>and</strong> without parentalknowledge.C. ABSENCE PROCEDURES1. The day a student returns to school from an absence, he/she must report directly to theflagpole security station with a signed <strong>and</strong> dated note from a parent/guardian. Include yourname <strong>and</strong> grade on the note. Deposit the note in the Excuses box.2. Absences not covered by a note will be considered unexcused/illegal.3. If the absence is excused, the student is permitted to make up the work that he/she missed.4. If the absence is unexcused or illegal, the student will receive an "F" (0%) <strong>for</strong> each missedclass.NOTE: Prior approval must be given <strong>for</strong> hunting, trips, college visits, <strong>and</strong> other planned absences.If prior approval is not given, the absence will be considered unexcused. For inquiries aboutattendance, call the attendance secretary in the <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> Office at 273-9391 ext. 5733.D. TARDINESS PROCEDURES TO SCHOOL1. <strong>Student</strong>s are considered tardy to school if they are not in first period class by 7:55 a.m.2. <strong>Student</strong>s will receive 1/4 day unexcused absence if tardy <strong>for</strong> 1 st period. <strong>Student</strong>s will receive1/2 day unexcused absence if tardy from 8:40 until 11:23 am. After 11:23 am, students willreceive an unexcused absence <strong>for</strong> the day.3. <strong>Student</strong>s who are late to school must report to the flagpole security station, sign in <strong>and</strong>receive a blue late pass. If after 8:05 am, the student will be instructed to report to thecafeteria until 8:39. If after 8:39, the student will be instructed to report to L128.4. <strong>Student</strong>s who are tardy must present a signed, blue late pass to their classroom teacher togain admission to class.5. Time lost due to unexcused tardiness may result in an <strong>of</strong>fense punishable by a fine <strong>for</strong>students <strong>of</strong> compulsory school age. Excessive tardiness may result in suspension <strong>and</strong>/orexpulsion from school.E. TARDINESS PROCEDURES TO CLASS1. <strong>Student</strong>s are considered tardy to class if they are not in their assigned classrooms by thetime the bell rings.2. Tardiness to class will result in detention on the second tardy <strong>for</strong> a specific class. Excessivetardiness to class may result in suspension <strong>and</strong>/or expulsion from school.F. TIME DOORS OPEN1. <strong>Student</strong>s may enter the building through the cafeteria door at 7:15 a.m. <strong>Student</strong>s mustremain in the cafeteria until 7:45 a.m.2. At 7:45 a.m., the entire school is open <strong>and</strong> students may leave the cafeteria area.9
