V. SCHOOL BOARD POLICIESThis section of the handbook includes information on policies and procedures. Allpolicies are available on our website in their entirety, or can be obtained by contactingthe district office. These policies/procedures are listed in alphabetical order.ATTENDANCE – Policy #204Attendance is required by law. Students are required to return a properly completedpupil excuse form or note to the office on the first day they return from an absence.A parent or guardian must complete and sign the form or note.Notes not turned in to the office within three days of the absence may becomeunlawful absences. The principal has the right to grant an exception when there areextenuating circumstances.When requesting days missed for family educational experiences or an emergency, awritten notice to the building principal is required one week prior to the trip. Formsare available in the office. Permission for a maximum of 5 days will be granted basedon the student’s academic standing. Any longer amount of time requires superintendentapproval.BULLYING – Policy #218.5Under this policy, bullying is a form of harassment in which the behavior is intended, orperceived to intend, to harm or to cause distress to another. The action occursrepeatedly over time and, in addition to causing harm or distress, has the effect ofinsulting or demeaning any student or group of students in such a way as to causedisruption of the orderly operation of the school. Bullying may be physical, verbal,written, electronically transmitted or psychological. It may include, but is not limitedto, actions such as verbal taunts, physical aggression, extortion of money orpossessions, exclusion from peer groups within school, name-calling, or harassment andintimidation consistent with the district’s policy on Student Discipline, Policy, #218.The School Board prohibits all forms of bullying behavior on school property, in schoolvehicles, at school-sponsored events, or during travel to and from school. Any violationof this policy shall be considered an infraction of the Student Code of Conduct, withdiscipline implemented accordingly. All bully behavior, including “cyber” bullying, that isa violation of the PA Crimes Code will be reported to the police.27
