23. IS MEDI-CAL MANAGED CARE THE SAME AS A HEALTH/DENTAL CARE PLAN?Yes. MEDI-CAL Managed Care is a program whereby the State contractswith various health care plans to provide services to you in an organizedand coordinated manner. The managed care plans must directly give, orarrange for, all MEDI-CAL services to you.24. CAN I GO TO ANY PROVIDER IF I ENROLL IN A HEALTH/DENTAL CARE PLAN?If you enroll in a health/dental care plan, you must use the plan providersand clinics unless emergency care is needed.25. HOW DO I JOIN A MANAGED CARE PLAN?You can ask your county eligibility worker if managed care is available and howto contact either the health care plan or the local health care options worker.Or contact Health Care Options (HCO) at 1-800-430-4263 for more informationabout your health plan choices.26. HOW DO I GET OUT OF A MANAGED CARE PLAN?In some areas served by a County Organized Health System (COHS), if youvoluntarily choose or are assigned to a provider, you may have to stay withthat provider for six months. Some COHS allow you to cancel your providerfor any reason within the first 30 days if you did not choose or wereassigned to a provider you do not like. If you are in a COHS county whereyou have to stay with a provider for six months before changing, you willget more information about this when you sign up for the health care plan.If you live in a Two-Plan Model or Geographic Managed Care county, andthe option to join a health care plan is voluntary, you may disenroll at anytime. (To disenroll, contact the plan membership staff at the phone numberprovided in the papers you got when you signed up.)
