Oiled up
Cameroon is set to join the West African nations with hydrocarbon reserves, after further oil deposits were discovered off the country’s coast late
last year. For the past two years, Edinburgh-based exploration and production company Bowleven has been investigating potentially significant
accumulations of hydrocarbons at three sites off the coast of Douala. In 2011 it carried out multi-well exploration and appraisal drilling on the area,
which covers approximately 2,300km² across the Rio del Rey and Douala Basins. Oil was found in each well – fairly clear evidence that barrels of crude
oil could soon be extracted from under Cameroon’s seabed.
Kevin Hart, Bowleven CEO, said, “We are now more convinced than ever about the exploration and development potential of our acreage and we look
forward to pursuing the opportunities our Cameroon acreage holds.” Here’s hoping the black gold Bowleven found will bring additional prosperity to
the nation in 2012.

Le Cameroun est sur le point d’augmenter ses réserves d’hydrocarbures,
après la découverte, à la fin de l’année dernière, de gisements de pétrole
au large de ses côtes. Cela va faire deux ans maintenant que Bowleven,
l’entreprise d’exploration et d’exploitation pétrolière d’Edimbourg, évalue le
riche potentiel en hydrocarbures de bassins répartis sur trois sites, au large
de la côte de Douala. En 2011, la société a mené des activités d’exploration
multi-sources et des estimations de forages dans la zone de Rio del Rey et
Douala-bassin, qui s’étend sur quelque 2.300km². Du pétrole a été trouvé
dans chacun des puits – tout porte donc à croire que du pétrole brut

plus que jamais convaincus du potentiel d’exploration et de développement
dans ce périmètre et nous continuerons à exploiter les opportunités de
gisements que recèle le Cameroun. » En espérant que l’or noir que Bowleven
a découvert apportera un supplément de prospérité à la nation en 2012.

Kameroen is klaar om zijn voorraden met koolwaterstof te verhogen,
nadat vorig jaar langs de kust verdere oliesporen werden ontdekt.
Tijdens de voorbije twee jaar heeft het in Edinburgh gebaseerde
verkennings- en productiebedrijf Bowleven onderzoek verricht naar
potentieel belangrijke opstapelingen van koolwaterstof op drie
plaatsen langs de kust van Douala. In 2011 boorde het naar
verschillende bronnen in een gebied dat ongeveer 2.300km² groot is
en tegenover de Rio del Rey en de Douala Basins ligt. Er werd olie
gevonden – een duidelijk bewijs dat er binnenkort vaten met ruwe
olie kunnen gehaald worden uit de Kameroense zeebodem.
Kevin Hart, CEO bij Bowleven, zegt, “We zijn nu meer overtuigd dan
ook van het ontdekkings- en ontwikkelingspotentieel van deze
oppervlakte en we kijken ernaar uit om de mogelijkheden ervan ten
volle te benutten.” Hopen dus dat het door Bowleven gevonden
zwarte goud het land in 2012 extra welvarendheid zal brengen.
