Water world
The DRC is a nation of rivers, and while
none is more powerful than the river
that gives the country its name, there
are plenty of spectacular tributaries to
be visited not far from Kinshasa. One of
the best spots to head to is Zongo Falls,
between three and four hours from the
capital by road, where the Inkisi River
drops more than 65 metres off a cliff
before continuing on its way. At the
height of the rainy season the spray
envelops the valley and surrounding
rocks, while during the dry season you
can walk right up to the falls’ edge.
Camping out
Not far from the waterfall you’ll find the
charming Seli Safari Zongo Lodge
(selisafari.com), with a restaurant, bar
and accommodation. Bungalows are
around €74 a night with an ensuite
bathroom; for €48 you can rent a small

de Kinshasa. Les Chutes de Zongo, par exemple, constituent

Meat and greet
On your return to Kinshasa, sidle up to
the bar and reminisce about old times at
Colibri (Avenue Colonel Lukusa/Avenue
Mbuji-Mayi), reputedly the longestserving
watering hole in the city.
There’s cold Tembo beer on tap, and the
steak tartar – ‘Toast Cannibal’ – is one of
the most popular meals in Kinshasa.
N’Djili International Airport is 30km east of the city, and taxis are available at stands outside the arrivals area.
Haggling with local cabbies can be daunting, but hold fi rm and try to negotiate a fare into town for about $30 (€23).

Colonel Lukusa/Avenue Mbuji-Mayiet) et plongez-vous dans les
temps anciens : ce café est réputé comme l’une des plus
vieilles institutions du pays. On y sert de la bière Tembo à la
pression et son steak tartare – ‘Toast Cannibale’ – est un des
plus renommés de Kinshasa.
L’aéroport International de N’Djili est situé à 30 km à l’est du centre-ville. Les taxis sont alignés à l’extérieur du terminal
Y aller principal, mais marchander avec les locaux peut s’avérer fastidieux. Restez ferme et vous pourrez négocier un tarif à
destination de la ville pour environ 30 $ (23 €).
