☛ GETTING AROUND
The airport is 15km from the centre of
town and a taxi should cost around
CFA 5,000 (€7,60), including luggage
and some hard bargaining. The best
thing to do is to call the hotel in
advance and arrange for a driver to
pick you up.
☛ EAT OUT
Le Point E (Rue de Thies, Point E) is a
good and reliable place to get a typical
Senegalese lunchtime dish of rice and
either fish or meat. Occasionally
there’s live music in the evenings, too.
Overlooking an Olympic swimming
pool, the roof-top Café Vounda-Bar
(Goethe-Institut, Point E, tel. 77 560
2160) is a good place to catch some
breeze, a light meal and an early
evening drink.
☛ NIGHTLIFE
For an authentic evening of old-school
Dakar salsa-mbalax, head to Le Sahel
(behind Casino-Sahm supermarket,
Cheikh Anta Diop). Youssou N’Dour
used to play here in the early days of
his career, and several music greats
have graced its stage since then. With
a fun-loving, mixed crowd and some
good West African beats in an open-air
beachside location, Koulgraoul
(l’Oceanium, on the Corniche) is a
great late-night hang-out. It’s held the
first Saturday of every month and
starts around midnight.
WHERE TO LEARN
The Baobab Center (Sicap Baobab,
tel. 33 825 3637, acibaobab.org) offers
intensive classes for local languages
such as Wolof, Serer, Pulaar and
Mandinka. The not-for-profit
organisation also runs health and
social justice promotion activities
across West Africa.

pour déguster des mets sénégalais
typiques – plats de riz à base de
poisson ou de viande – à l’heure du
lunch. À l’occasion, on y joue également
de la musique en soirée. Surplombant
une piscine olympique, le Café Vounda-
Bar situé sur un toit (Goethe-Institut,
Point E, tél. 77 560 2160) est un
endroit fantastique pour profiter d’un
peu de fraîcheur, d’un bon repas léger
et d’un verre en début de soirée.

d’Afrique de l’Ouest, le Koulgraoul
situé en plein air sur la plage
(l’Océanium, sur la Corniche) est un
super repaire nocturne. Il est ouvert le
premier samedi du mois et démarre
aux alentours de minuit.
