The combination of the two gives abiological profile that is unique to each player.In the weeks leading up to the World Cup, FIFAdoping control officers paid an unannouncedvisit to each of the 32 participating teamsto conduct out-of-competition doping tests(blood and urine) on the players. All 736players participating in the competition weretested. All pre-competition doping analysesconducted yielded negative results.In-competition doping controlFollowing the routine in-competitionprocedure as described in the FIFA Anti-Doping Regulations, two players per teamwere randomly selected for doping controlafter each of the 64 matches to provideurine and blood samples. Altogether, 512samples were collected and analysed at theWADA-accredited laboratory in Lausanne,Switzerland. All samples returned negativeresults.Legacy for BrazilPrior to both competitions – the FIFAConfederations Cup 2013 and the 2014FIFA World Cup Brazil – Football EmergencyMedicine Workshops were conducted withthe LOC Venue Medical Officers as well as theteam doctors of the participating memberassociations. Furthermore, the field-of-playmedical teams at each venue were extensivelytrained by Prof. Efraim Kramer. A newbenchmark for standard medical care on andaround the pitch has now been set.The FIFA 11 for Health programme wasimplemented in all 12 venues with 3,300children. In collaboration with the CBF andthe Brazilian government, the programme willlater be implemented nationwide.
