PARIS CACHÉ1. La Ruche dans le XV earrondissement2. 6 rue Georges-Braque,l’ancien atelier du peintretoujours recouverte d’une végétation dense. En1927, Auguste Perret édifia pour le peintreGeorges Braque une maison-atelier de brique, defer et de béton dans laquelle il travailla plus detrente- cinq ans avant sa mort. Une exceptionnellebâtisse toujours visible au 6 de la rue rebaptiséeGeorges-Braque.Dans le secretdes cours intérieuresSi les ateliers des environs du parc Montsourisont quasiment tous pignon sur rue, il faut parfoispousser une lourde porte de métal pour dénicherau fond d’une cour aléatoire des repairesd’artistes tout aussi fascinants. Au 2, passage deDantzig, dans le XV e arrondissement, la Ruche futédifiée par un sculpteur en vogue du début du XX esiècle. Alfred Boucher était soucieux d’apporter àses jeunes congénères un semblant de confort etde modernité. Au final, ce bric- à-bracinvraisemblable, noyé dans la verdure et la rouille,bourdonna cahin-caha jusque dans les années70 où seul un classement à l’ordre desmonuments historiques lui épargna ladestruction. La Ruche a vu éclore des artistes derenom tels Rebeyrolle ou, plus près de nous,Ernest Pignon Ernest ou Arroyo. Aujourd’hui lesalvéoles de la Ruche tiennent toujours lieud’ateliers à de jeunes artistes en devenir.21modernity. At 3, Square Montsouris, can be found theluxurious home of the Japanese painter Foujita, whichwas built in the middle of the 1920s and is still coveredwith dense vegetation. In 1927, Auguste Perret built forthe painter Georges Braque a studio-house made ofbrick, iron and concrete in which he worked for overthirty-five years before he died. It is an exceptionalbuilding that is still visible at number 6 on the streetnow renamed Georges-Braque.Secret inner courtyardsAlthough the studios of the Montsouris Park area arealmost all at street level, sometimes we have to push aheavy metal gate to discover equally fascinatingartists’ dens on the other side of a courtyard. At 2,Passage de Dantzig, in the 15th arrondissement, LaRuche (the Hive) was built by a fashionable sculptorfrom the beginning of the 20th century. AlfredBoucher was anxious to provide his youngcounterparts with a semblance of comfort andmodernity. In the end, this unlikely piece of bric-abrac,covered in greenery and rust, buzzed withactivity until the 1970s, when only its listing as ahistorical monument prevented it from being pulleddown. The Ruche saw the blossoming of well-knownartists such as Rebeyrolle, and, closer to home, ErnestPignon Ernest and Arroyo. Today, the cells of theRuche are still used as studios for up-and-comingyoung artists.76
