correlation to skin care product usage it is clear
that a correct or not correct use of these products
did not influence clinical parameters.
Considering Spiderming concerning skin sensitivity
we noticed that scores obtained by very
sensitive subjects were higher than scores
obtained by non sensitive ones. In particular
this observation was evident for vascular and
pigmentary homogeneity, resistance to traction,
resistance to pinching and recovery after pinching
in females (Figure 6).
Within this project a total of 2.408
clinical evaluations were collected and a significative
picture of skin healthy state of Italian
population was obtained. Women (80% of the
examined population) resulted to be more interested
to the themes proposed on the campaign
and demonstrated to lead a more healthy life
compared to men and to use constantly and correctly
skin care products. Moreover women
demonstrated a higher cutaneous sensitivity (self
assessment evaluation confirmed by the stinging
test). Probably, healthy life style and attention
demonstrated by women on skin care explain
their lower grade of skin aging. Above all, considering
under 30 population, statistically significative
differences on skin aging degree between
males and females were found and in particular
the presence of wrinkles on nasolabial folds and
on “crow’s feet” area in men was more evident
than women. Differences between males and
females reduced in 30-50 years age range, but
over 50 years differences returned significant.
Anyway, skin aging progress was similar for the
two populations and in both cases all parameters
worsened with ageing. Moreover, this study considered
the influence of smoking and of incorrect
usage of sun protection factors on skin
aging. Similarly, both factors induced negative
effects on skin aging and this was particularly
evident in over 40 subjects. One of the purpose
of this study was also to evaluate the parameters
best representing a healthy state. In this case we
decided to analyze only women, whose skin, as
previously explained, demonstrated to have a
better health state. Achieved results demonstrated
that women under 50 years are more likely to
follow a regular lifestyle, in fact in women
belonging to this age range skin aging degree
was more evident for subjects who did not show
correct life habits. Considering creams/detergents
usage, results show that women between
30 and 60 years demonstrated an higher attention
towards skin care respect to women over 60
or under 30. Spiderming TM graph on the influence
of sensitive skin on skin aging shows that
“stinger” women present worse values for some
clinical parameters: vascular and pigmentary
homogeneity, resistance to pinching, resistance
to traction and recovery after pinching. It must
be underlined that the number of women with a
sensitive/very sensitive skin keep constant in all
age ranges. Even if in both men and women skin
aging became evident after 40 years of age, it is
clear that a healthy life style and a correct prevention
must be adopted starting from 20 years
onwards, in order to maintain a healthy and
young skin. The study provided an interesting
overview about Italian population’s skin aging.
With the collected information it was possible to
inform the participating subjects about the
health state of their skin and possible cure to
eventual skin problems. Assembled data will be
useful to increase thr awareness of the importance
of maintenance of a skin healthy state and
its balance.
