fin dai tempi dei romani, probabilmente
anche in virtù della sua
vicinanza con l'Urbe.
Ricco e vario è il calendario delle
manifestazioni. Gli appuntamenti
più importanti sono la Sagra delle
Cerase di Palombara Sabina (prima o seconda domenica di giugno),
l'Infiorata del Corpus Domini di Poggio Moiano e la Sagra
delle Sagne di Farro a Licenza (terza domenica di novembre).
Tra i sapori più autentici di queste terre il primo è quello dell'olio
extravergine di oliva della Sabina (DOP), leggerissimo e saporito,
derivante da olive raccolte a mano in piccoli appezzamenti distribuiti
lungo diverse fasce pedemontane. Nelle aree collinari che
guardano la campagna romana sono coltivate, ormai da quasi due
secoli, le ciliegie “Ravenne”, grandi, tardive e dalla polpa consistente.
Il farro, antichissimo cereale coltivato dall'uomo, ha trovato
discrete “aree rifugio” sui Lucretili, dove non è stato soppiantato
da altre colture più redditizie riuscendo a sopravvivere e a costituire
la base per ottime produzioni artigianali di pasta e dolci.
The Lucretili Mountains Regional Park
Due to notable climatic differences, the Lucretili mountains have a varied and particular
vegetation, as a sort of green “mosaic” that consists of groups of plants with
Mediterranean, Middle European and Balkan origins. The most typical example of
this latest variety is the storax, a shrub whose white flower is the symbol of the protected
area. The Park is run through by a dense net of pedestrian trails. Its most
characteristic environments are the high ground grasslands, surrounded by beech
woods, where the cattle graze around and one finds hares and rock partridges. The
rock cliffs are ideal places for birds of prey such as the peregrine and the golden eagle
(that nests by since several years). The Park has 13 main villages, set with a radial
arrangement around its perimeter, each one with a fortified historical core and
a long story to tell. Many festivals are connected to the local agricultural products,
like the Fair of the Cerase (cherries) in Palombara Sabina (on the first or
second Sunday of June) and the Fair of the Spelt Pasta in Licenza
(on the third Sunday of November). Anyway the most authentic
flavour of this area belongs to the Sabina extra virgin
olive oil, very light, coming out from a olive hand-harvest
in small plots of land spread on the slopes of the mountains.
