La sede del Parco è a Jenne, ma il centro più importante è Subiaco,
piccola capitale dell’alta valle dell’Aniene. Il suo territorio era
frequentato dai tempi dei romani per la costruzione degli acquedotti
e lo svago (come attestano i resti della maestosa villa di Nerone)
ed oggi è un’importantissima meta di pellegrinaggio, permeata
di testimonianze e suggestioni benedettine.
Le attività agro-pastorali sono ancora abbastanza diffuse e interessano
quasi un terzo della superficie del parco. Le più importanti
sono l’allevamento (bovino, ovino ed equino), la produzione
casearia e la coltivazione di ortaggi, tra cui alcuni legumi strettamente
locali come il fagiolo di Vallepietra, detto anche “ciavattone”
per le sue grandi dimensioni.
Fra i prodotti tradizionali sono da segnalare gli ‘ndremmappi di
Jenne, una pasta fresca fatta con acqua e farina di grano mista a
crusca, che viene ritagliata in striscioline cortissime e condita con
sugo di pomodoro e alici.
The Regional Park of the Simbruini Mountains
Real mountains one hour far from Rome. Sculpted on the surface and deeply dug by
karst phenomena. Run across by a tridimensional system of both major and minor
water courses supplied by abundant rains (“Simbruini” originates from the Latin
words sub imbribus standing for under the rains). Preserved by the vastest Regional
Protected Area (300 square Km), one of the first ones to be established in the year
1983. The Park is characterized by a peculiar naturalistic, cultural and landscape
identity: endless beech woods, karst plateaus, gorges, springs and rivers, caves, the
quiet presence of wolves, eagles and bears, as well as sanctuaries, monasteries and
scattered historical settlements, all with a mediaeval plant. Many and diversified
are the excursion offers, practicable along a close net of trails, mostly supplied with
proper signs, that run through the most relevant environments.
The main town is Subiaco, populated since the Roman era (as witnessed by the ruins
of the majestic emperor Nero’s Villa) and important pilgrimage destination full
of Benedictine appeal. Among the traditional products the “ndremmappi” of Jenne
need to be mentioned, fresh pasta made of water and wheat flour mixed to bran,
that is cut in very short strips and served with tomato sauce and anchovies.
