THE BRIDGES’ WALK
Evocative is the walk starting from S. Brigida chapel. The path runs
down to Rio Merea valley and leads to a modern house. Therefrom, a
mule track crosses the wood and ends up at Merea Bridge, built at the
beginning of XIX century (picture).
FATHER LUIGI HERMITAGE
It is located not far from Merea Bridge, and it is named after Luigi
Bellissima, a hermit who had chosen that place for his spiritual isolation.
Over the bridge, the remains of his lodgings are visible. A little bit further
down the visitors can enjoy the sight of small lakes and beautiful
waterfalls. The path leads then up to a rural area where some small
stone houses are situated. Over a farmers’ house, the path turns left
and crosses lavender fields, which in the old days were at the basis of
the local economy.
MARTELLI BRIDGE
Leaving the fields, the
visitors reach Martelli
Bridge, older than
Merea Bridge, and built
on the way which
connects Dolcedo to
Pietrabruna. The path
goes up through olive
trees to a borough
called Buxi and, over
it, meets a typical
construction of this
area, called Casô.
THE “CASÔ”
It was a stone, rectangularly shaped building with three arches and a
roof made up of sleet blocks, which can only be found in this area. It
was used in winter periods to host shepherds with their flocks, normally
composed of 80/90 sheep, whose manure was then used for the olive
tree cultivation.
