cloruri si presentano nell’ambiente.
In questo modo l’azione protettiva è
causata dall’aggressività dell’ambiente
corrosivo come raffigurato nello
schema di fig. 2.
Efficacia anticorrosione
dei pigmenti LDH
I nanocontainers messi a punto sono
stati analizzati dal punto di vista delle
loro proprietà inibitorie. Per questa ragione,
le polveri LDH (5 g/l) con anioni
intercalati vanadati e fosfati sono stati
dispersi nella soluzione di NaCl a
0.05M. Questi elettroliti sono stati poi
utilizzati come veicoli corrosivi per i
test dell’immersione. Sono stati inoltre
preparati gli elettroliti modificati con
2.5 g/l di fosfato e 2.5 g/l di vanadato,
per comprendere l’azione sinergica di
due tipi di nanocontainers nello stesso
sistema. In fig. 3 è presentata la superficie
delle lastre AA2024 dopo 15
giorni di immersione in vari elettroliti,
▼
▼
dove si osserva un attacco corrosivo
ben definito sui campioni immersi negli
superficie metallica. Nel caso di LDH
miscelati, la superficie di AA2024 sembra
quasi intatta senza alcun mutamento
del colore rispetto a quello della
superficie prima dell’immersione.
Si sono osservati soltanto leggeri difetti
coperti da depositi densi. Questi
punti possono corrispondere ai punti
di camolatura passivati. L’analisi delle
foto presentate dimostra chiaramente
un effetto inibitorio sinergico quando
nello stesso sistema sono presenti il
fosfato-LDH e il vanadato LDH. Durante
i test dell’immersione, per valutare
Solution of 0.1 M of inhibitor was prepared
under Ar atmosphere. This solution was divided
into two portions. First portion was
added to total amount of the prepared precursor
nitrate LDH and the suspension was
held for 24 h with a constant stirring.
The reaction products were then isolated
and washed as described above. Then the
second portion of inhibitor containing solution
was added to the precipitate and the
procedure of ion-exchange was repeated.
Finally, the organic anion-loaded LDH powders
were washed 4 times with boiled distilled
water, frozen and then dried by
lyophilization at -78ºC.
Coating and substrate preparation
Before immersion tests in LDH-loaded and
pure 0.05 M NaCl solutions, the aluminum
alloy 2024 substrates were cleaned and
etched according to the standard commercial
procedure (alkaline cleaning in Metaclean
T2001 at 68 o C for 25 min, alkaline
etching in Turco Liquid Aluminetch N2 at
60 o C for 45 s, acid etching in Turco Liquid
Smutgo NC at 30 o C for 7 min each followed
by washing in distilled water). For the tests
of the protective coatings doped with
nanocontainers the cleaned aluminum substrates
were coated with a thin hybrid solgel
layer (2 μm) and then overpainted with
water-based epoxy paint.
The hybrid sol-gel formulation was
synthesized and applied as described in detail
elsewhere [13].
The paint used in this study was a non-inhibited
waterbased epoxy primer (Man -
kiewicz SEEVENAX, thickness 25 μm) and
a water-based epoxy topcoat (thickness
30 μm). The primer and sol-gel formulation
were doped with LDH nanocontainers in
amounts of 10 wt.% inhibitor in dry coating.
The paints were sprayed with a Sata Jet
2000 HVLP Digital spray pistol using 4.5 bar
on a 1.3 spray valve. The primers and top
coats were mixed with the curing agents
according to the technical data sheets. After
applying the primer system, the top coat was
deposited within 24 h afterwards. Then the
samples were stored at room temperature for
72 h before the tests were carried out.
Examination methods
The structure of the LDH powders was studied
by X-ray diffraction (XRD) (Philips
X’Pert difractometer (Cu K radiation)) and
Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy
(FTIR) (Bruker Equinox IFS 55 spectrophotometer).
The particle morphology and composition
were characterized by Scanning
Electron Microscopy (SEM/EDS) (Hitachi
S-4100 microscope with an electron beam
energy of 25 kV and a beam current of
10 A). The EIS measurements were carried
out on bare alloy and coated samples at
room temperature in a three-electrode cell
consisting of a saturated calomel reference
electrode, a platinum foil counter electrode
and the AA2024 sample as a working elec-
