Il circuito equivalente raffigurato in fig.
4b è stato utilizzato in questi casi per
adeguare gli spettri sperimentali. Nel
caso della miscela contenente l’elettrolita
di entrambi gli LDH si osserva
soltanto una costante del tempo correlata
alla risposta del film di ossido. In
questo caso i processi di corrosione
non sono rilevabili.
Per questo campione è stato applicato
il circuito rappresentato in fig. 4c.
contatto diretto dell’ambiente corrosivo
anions were synthesized and studied using
X-ray diffraction.
XRD pattern (Fig. 1) for the precursor nitrate-containing
LDH shows well-defined
peaks at 9.86º, 19.92º and 30º, which can
be ascribed to diffraction by planes (003),
(006) and (009).
The unit cell height calculated using (003)
peak position is 8.96 Å.
This corresponds to a gallery height (anion
layer thickness) of 4.19 Å, assuming a thickness
of 4.77 Å for the cationic sheets
(brucite-like layers).
This gallery height is slightly higher than
the diameter of NO3- anion (3.78 Å) and can
be attributed to the vertical alignment of
NO3- planar groups with respect to the host
layer.
XRD pattern of the LDH obtained after the
procedure of anion exchange of nitrate anions
for vanadate ones demonstrates single-phase
hydrotalcite-type system.
Comparison of the two diffractograms for
nitrate-loaded and vanadate-loaded LDHs
clearly indicates that the gallery height increases
from 4.19 Å (d(003) = 8.96 Å) to 4.81
Å (d(003) = 9.22 Å) as NO3- ions are replaced
L’evoluzione della resistenza del film di
ossido durante l’immersione in diversi
elettroliti è stata calcolata con l’ausilio
degli spettri d’impedenza sperimentali,
come da fig. 5.
I risultati
presentati confermano ancora una
volta che miscelando due tipi di nano-
containers LDH con due inibitori di corrosione
si ottiene un effetto sinergico
significativo che offre un’efficacia inibitoria
maggiore rispetto ai due tipi di
nanocontainers utilizzati individualmente.
I primer in commercio modificati con i
nanocontainers LDH sono stati applicati
su pannelli in lega d’alluminio pretrattati
con sol-gel, come descritto
nella sezione sperimentale.
Lo strato di pretrattamento sol-gel è
stato ulteriormente modificato con
MBT-LDH.
Evolution of the oxide film resistance during immersion of AA2024
in 0.05M NaCl doped with different LDHs
by vanadate ones. No residual reflections
corresponding to the nitrate-containing LDH
are evident after anion exchange, indicating
complete exchange. The anion exchange
procedure was performed at pH 8.4.
Under these pH conditions, the predominant
oligovanadate species in the reaction
mixture are V2O7 4- and HV2O7 3- .
The V2O7 4- anions are composed of two VO4
tetrahedra (VO3-O-VO3) sharing a vertex,
and in the interlayer gallery two different
arrangements are possible, one with anion
is standing up (perpendicular to the brucitelike
layers) and another with anion is lying
down (parallel to the layers).
Taking into account that the expected
gallery heights for the V2O7 4- anion corresponding
to the perpendicular arrangement
and to the parallel one are 7.8 and 5.0 Å,
we can conclude that in the synthesized
vanadate-loaded LDHs, the anions should
be in parallel arrangement. In the case of
phosphate-intercalated LDH the XRD spectrum
can be correctly described if we assume
that two LDH-type phases are present
in the synthesized powder.
The analysis of the XRD data allowed us to
CORROSION
suggest that phosphate anions have two
particular orientations within the interlayer
galleries: in one phase the anions should
be in parallel arrangement and in another
one - in perpendicular arrangement with
respect to the brucitelike layers.
The intercalation of MBT leads to more significant
increase of the interlayer space because
of the higher size of the corresponding
ion.
This result was reported in our previous
work [36].
The analysis of structure of the obtained
LDHs clearly demonstrates that after the
ion exchange the inhibiting anions are kept
between the hydroxide layers. The release
of the inhibitors is possible also only by the
ion-exchange reaction without uncontrollable
leaching. This fact is very important
when such pigments are applied in corrosion
protection systems.
The inhibitor can be delivered on demand
when corrosive anions such as chlorides
appear in the environment. Thus the active
protection action is triggered by the aggressiveness
of the corrosive environment
as schematically shown on Figure 2.
filiformi. Sono stati preparati e
analizzati i seguenti campioni: 1) sol-
gel non modificato rivestito con primer
modificato con miscela di vanadato-
LDH + MBT-LDH; 2) sol-gel modificato
con nanocontainers LDH contenenti
MBT e rivestiti con primer non modificato;
Anticorrosion efficiency
of the LDH-pigments
The developed LDH nanocontainers were
tested from standpoint of their inhibiting
properties. For this reason the LDH powders
(5 g/l) with intercalated vanadate and
phosphate anions were dispersed in the
0.05M NaCl solution.
These electrolytes were used then as corrosive
media for immersion tests. Additionally
the electrolyte doped with 2.5 g/l
of phosphate and 2.5 g/l of vanadate was
also prepared aiming in understanding of
synergistic action of two types of nanocontainers
in the same system.
The surface of the AA2024 plates after 15
days of immersion in different electrolytes
are presented in Figure 3.
Well defined corrosion attack can be observed
on the sample immersed in electrolyte
with phosphate-LDH.
Several large pittings appeared on the surface
together with extensive formation of
corrosive products.
The situation seems better in the case
when vanadate-LDH is used as inhibiting
pigment.
