My uncle Ricardo
Ricardo Alexandre Barbosa was born in Natal, RN in
September 14th 1976. He is a doctor from the navy.
“I choose to do medicine because my father is a doctor and he
owns a clinic in Natal. I always liked medicine” – he said. That’s why
he studied medicine at Universidade de Campos in Rio de Janeiro
and after that, he became a successful doctor. He is not just a
doctor now, he serves the navy also.
Ricardo was inspired to go to the navy because since he was a kid,
he wanted to know the world from the water. He always liked the
ocean and he wanted to see other countries from a ship.
In 2015 Ricardo volunteered to spend 10 months in
Lebanon, cause Brazilian Navy was supposed to replace a ship
called União that was there in a peace mission from ONU.
He did it because it would be a great opportunity to know other
cultures and places, besides saving people from the warand
theIslamic State (mostly Taliban) that is attacking people that don´t
follow the Islamic religion from Siria.
They have saved 220 immigrants from a small boat that
were injured in the war. The navy went to the coast of Libano on
board of Corveta Barroso to help people who escaped from Siria
trying to reach the coast of Europe.
Ricardo said that if needed he would do it again. If he had not
helped that people, they would have died. His action was very
important for some people.
He didn’t won any prizes but he improved some skills,
learned more about some subjects and helped people, so for him it
was an achievement.
