leaf casting (2.13.3)

reintegración mecánica con pulpa (es) reintegração mecânica (pt)

μηχανική συμπλήρωση (ελ)

Procedure for reestablishing areas of loss, carried

out on a leaf casting apparatus. It is based on the

papermaking principle in which fibers suspended in

water, when passing through a sheet placed over a

nylon screen, tend to deposit within missing areas.

See also: insert; wet pulp fill; dry pulp fill; filling of losses.

Note: leaf casting is useful for the reestablishment of large areas of loss

or in documents that have been heavily damaged by insects, which are

impossible to be reestablished using manual reintegration techniques.

Although operating the leaf casting apparatus is simple, the procedure is

complex and depends, for example, on exact calculations of areas of loss

and the amount of fibers that will be used in order to avoid overlap or failure

in missing areas.
