lining (2.12)

laminado (es) laminação (pt)

φοδράρισμα (ελ)

Consolidation procedure carried out on paper artifacts

in which a thin transparent reinforcement layer is

adhered to one or two surfaces of an object.

Other denomination: lamination; backing.

Note: Traditionally, many reinforcement materials and different types of

adhesives have been used, which, over time, have presented issues. Currently,

lining is carried out using Japanese tissue paper and reversible adhesives. It

can also be carried out with Japanese tissue impregnated with hot melt or

solvent reactive adhesives, which are activated by a hot spatula or hot table

or a suitable solvent. Because this is an invasive treatment, lining should

only be carried out on objects whose extreme fragility impairs handling

and consultation.
