stain removal (2.3)

remoción de mancha (es) remoção de mancha (pt)

αφαίρεση λεκέδων (ελ)

Procedure carried out to remove stains through the

local application of various solvents such as water,

alcohol, and others or through bleaching.

See also: bleaching.

Note 1: This is a treatment that must be carefully assessed since it may cause

unwanted side-effects similar to those of washing.

Note 2: The term stain removal is the most common term among professionals;

however, it should be better evaluated, since the treatments rarely remove

stains from documents completely. The term stain reduction would be more

suited to the objectives and results of the conservation treatments of paperbased

artifacts.
