Bilaga B: AASS Peer review report
The peer review
This peer review of the research environment AASS at Örebro University
forms an input to the final evaluation of the initiative and the research
profiles succeeding work. The review was carried out by:
• Dr Pedro U. Lima, Associate Professor, Instituto Superior Técnico
(IST), Lisbon Technical University, Portugal
• Geoff Pegman, Managing Director of R U Robots Limited and
Technical Director of the National Advanced Robotics Research
Centre, Manchester, UK
• Professor Leo J de Vin, Head of the Centre for Intelligent Automation,
University College of Skövde, Sweden
The review is based on a dialogue between the review team and the AASS
team (management, researchers, members of the reference group) meeting
in Örebro 2008-12-04. The discussions during the evaluation day were
divided into three parts:
• A short introduction about achievements, given by the Research
Director, Professor Dimiter Driankov.
• A session of three presentations and discussion about the achievements
and strategies in the three laboratories.
• A final session of deepening the understanding of scientific
contributions, industry relevance and commercial potential and impact
on education. The discussions and questions raised by the peer review
panel were closely related to the criteria in the contract between the
research profile and the Knowledge Foundation.
The review is also based on information provided in the self-evaluation
report from November 17, 2008, annual reports and the Activity Plan from
2008.
The review team’s observations and recommendations are based on
information available in these sources and might not be fully
comprehensive. The report might therefore contain misunderstandings from
the side of the review team as well as recommendations that reflect steps
already taken by the research profile.
The report is based on discussions within the review team. The team has
focused on areas where the AASS show clear achievements as well as areas
