Ireland's Callaghan, Russia's Chernykh

win the "Red Bull Dawn till Dusk" bike tour

Ireland's Greg Callaghan with 312 points in

men, and Russian biker Ksenia Chernykh

with 227 points in women, won the "Red

Bull Dawn till Dusk" bike tour held in central

Turkey. As many as 106 cyclists pedaled on

the route consisting of four stages in various

valleys of Cappadocia, the region famous

for hot-air balloon rides and fairy chimneys.

The race started with the sunrise and

ended at sunset. Three disciplines of

mountain biking: cross-country, downhill

and enduro, were all included in the race.

The award ceremony was held in front of

Uchisar Castle, a centuries-old citadel that

provides a magnificent panorama view

of the surrounding area. "We competed

in magnificent nature and atmosphere. I

wasn't expecting to win and was just enjoying

it here, but of course it's nice to win",

said Callaghan, adding that he is looking

forward to race in Cappadocia again.

Chermykh, the winner in women's competition,

expressed her excitement by saying:

"Sometimes I couldn't focus completely as

I looked at the scenery around me. Thank

you everyone for everything, it was really a

dream day for me."

Famed horses of Turkey’s Cappadocia to be microchipped

The renowned horses of central Turkey’s

Cappadocia region will have microchips

implanted under their skin to monitor

their movements and screen their health.

Turkey's Provincial Directorate of Agriculture

and Forestry will implant the chips in

the necks of horses, mules, and donkeys

who attract the attention of tourists visiting

Cappadocia. With the microchip, which will

remain in the animals for a lifetime, information

such as their gender, species, date,

and place of birth and previous illnesses

and treatments can be viewed using a

digital reader.

Bayram Okcesiz, an official from the Directorate

of Agriculture and Forestry, told that the

equine animals were recorded in the ministry’s

database in case of any diseases with

a risk of transmission to humans. "We first

started our work from the town of Goreme,

since the horses here are mostly used for

tourist trips in Cappadocia. It will continue

in all villages and towns. The microchips

are specially prepared for each animal and

applied under the skin", said Okcesiz.
