AbstractObjective: The objective of this project is to investigate how individuals withemotional unstable personality disorder and self damaging behaviour, understandhow dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) has influenced their meaningful activitiesseen in relation to their present occupational performance. The background for thisinvestigation is the rec<strong>og</strong>nition of the lack of a tool for occupational therapytreatment.Methodol<strong>og</strong>y: The above mentioned was investigated through qualitativeinterviews with three informants. The criteria for selection were that the informantsshould have completed the first phase of the DBT treatment. The interview manualwas based on Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM) as well asmethodol<strong>og</strong>y for the design the narrative and qualitative research interview. Datawas transcribed and analyzed using the “ad hoc” methodol<strong>og</strong>y.Results: The results indicate that all informants have benefitted from the DBTtreatment. The results show a change in the expressed occupational performanceby limitation of occupational performance issues from the period before the DBTtreatment to the period during the DBT treatment, combined with increase inmeaningful activities in their daily life during DBT. The results show a reduction inthe informants self damaging behaviour. It is shown that the most effectiveelements are: patience skills, skills to handle crisis, regulation of feelings, contactperson service, telephone advice service, mindfulness and the contract.Conclusion: The informants who participated in the investigation, experiencedthat DBT has positively influenced their meaningful activities in relation to theirpresent occupational performance.Key words: Dialectical behaviour therapy, emotional unstable personalitydisorder, self damaging behaviour, occupational performance, occupationaltherapy.2
