system. Boehringer AG’s innovative information
system lays foundation for efficient water utility
management in municipality of Himmelried (Canton
of Solothurn) > As part of a general water supply planning
initiative, Böhringer AG’s engineers first pinpointed
the existing problems by means of local inspections,
drinking water mains calculations and various consultations,
before proceeding to develop efficient and viable
long-term solutions in collaboration with the municipality.
An analysis of the operational performance of all supply
installations, including firefighting water and emergency
systems, was followed by the preparation of a
phased investment and rehabilitation scheme. One
shortcoming brought to light by the survey was the
inadequacy of the firefighting water quantities and, in
places, of the water pressure for combating a major fire.
Böhringer drew up several alternatives aimed at successively
reducing the bottlenecks. The mains flow calculations
also showed how the heavy loads on the piping
systems could be cut to a sustainable level through the
installation of pressure-reducing valves.
