Im Westen, zwischen den Ortsteilen Thalheim und
Wolfen sowie dem Nachbarn Sandersdorf, liegt der
„TechnologiePark Mitteldeutschland“, das sogenannte
„Sonnenland“ (Solar Valley).
Im Süden und Südosten befinden sich auf einst bergbaulich
genutzten Flächen zum einen das „Seenland“ mit
dem Goitzschesee und zum anderen das „Waldviertel“.
Das durch umfangreiche Wiederaufforstung entstandene,
bis Nordsachsen reichende Waldgebiet (Goitzschewald)
ist ein wesentliches Merkmal des Ortsteiles
Holzweißig und des südlichen Bitterfeld. Für die Entwicklung
des Seenlandes steht der Ortsteil Bitterfeld mit den
benachbarten Orten Friedersdorf, Mühlbeck und Pouch
in enger räumlicher Verbindung.
Das östliche Stadtgebiet von Bitterfeld-Wolfen berührt
die Auenlandschaft der Mulde und damit Ausläufer des
Biosphärenreservates „Mittlere Elbe“. Kommunaler Partner
für den Erhalt und die behutsame Entwicklung dieser
Auenlandschaft, aber auch für Hochwasserschutzmaßnahmen
an der Mulde ist neben den Ortsteilen Greppin
und Wolfen die Stadt Raguhn-Jeßnitz. 12
1.8 Bildung und Soziales
Die Stadt Bitterfeld-Wolfen war aufgrund des massiven
Bevölkerungsrückgangs von umfangreichen Schulschließungen
betroffen. So wurden allein im OT Wolfen
14 Schulen an 5 Standorten geschlossen.
In den Ortsteilen Bobbau und Thalheim gibt es nach
Schließung der Grund- und Sekundarschule keinen

The “Technology Park of Central Germany”, the socalled
Sonnenland (Solar Valley) is located in the west,
surrounded by the town districts of Thalheim and Wolfen
and the neighbouring village of Sandersdorf.
In the south and southeast, there is “Seenland” (lake
district) with lake Goitzsche and the Waldviertel (forest
district) that are situated in the area formerly used for
mining. A main feature of Holzweißig and the southern
part of Bitterfeld is a vast forest (Goitzsche forest) which
came into existence as part of a comprehensive reforestation
project and which extends to the north of Saxony.
The development of Seenland is closely connected with
the town district of Bitterfeld and the neighbouring villages
of Friedersdorf, Mühlbeck and Pouch.
The eastern urban area of Bitterfeld-Wolfen is adjacent to
the Auenlandschaft (meadows) of the Mulde River and the
extensions of the Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve. In addition
to the urban parts of Greppin and Wolfen, the town of
Raguhn-Jeßnitz is also a communal partner for both the
conservation and careful development of this meadow land-
scape and flood protection measures on the Mulde River. 12
1.8 Education and social factors
A number of schools had to be closed in the town of
Bitterfeld-Wolfen due to the massive decrease in population.
In Wolfen alone, 14 schools had to be closed at 5
locations.
In Bobbau and Thalheim, there are no longer any schools
at all following the closure of the primary and secondary
