sehr unterschiedlich entwickelt. Gerade die Qualität im
Sinne einer Zertifizierung der Angebote und Leistungen
Teil 2
Tourism products and packages
The lake district has not been able to bring forth any
standard package deals to date. Instead, the different
actors in the region tend to try and create their own products
independently. A targeted alignment and a strategic
development of products do not take place because
no-one has been willing to take on (official) responsibility
for this. The common themes of existing products can
best be described as subjects to do with nature and
(industrial) culture. The Active theme is represented to a
lesser degree. A clear target group orientation could not
be identified yet. All in all, it can be said that the actors
in the local tourist industry have not particularly forced
the development of products to date, as the initial goal
was and/or is to develop basic infrastructures. Products
including packages, however, can be found to a certain
extent already.
At the present time, water tourism in the region is still in
its beginnings: there are however already activities and
services on the lakes. But only the Goitzsche with its
events and the “Ferropolis” festival site on Gremminer
Lake – with its unusual backdrop – have generated a wide
spectrum of products thus attracting attention outside of
the region. One special feature worth mentioning and located
close by is Dübener Heide (heath) and its landscape
and nature-related potentials. Opportunities to enjoy
nature activities (hiking, cycling, gentle water sports, etc.)
and numerous events are available in the Active segment.
With respect to the thematic area of culture, there is great
potential to link up cultural activities in the local surroundings:
Martin Luther, Bauhaus, Gartenreich and Leipzig.
There are also a number of opportunities in the region to
experience the mining tradition/landscape transformation
as well as the world’s largest landscape art project. The
large number of other smaller attractions offer development
opportunities, however, these must be further developed to
meet customer expectations, set appropriately in scene and
communicated. The networking of these in particular can
clearly still be described as a weakness.
To offer visitors an attractive range of tourist activities in
future, the following are therefore necessary:
• infrastructural and structural deficits must be done
away with,
• combined activities and services must be developed,
• an orientation towards target groups must be promoted
and
• the quality of what is on offer must be improved.
The tourism infrastructure is very differently developed in
terms of quality. In particular, quality certification of the
services and activities offered is insufficient in the lake
