授業科目の内容:<br />
This is a high-intermediate course with special emphasis on listening<br />
and speaking. Audio materials on a variety of contemporary topics, such<br />
as the aging of the human population and the place of technology in our<br />
life, will be used to develop critical thinking skills and language<br />
proficiency.<br />

参考書:<br />
Students are advised to have an English-English dictionary, such as the<br />
Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary.<br />
授業の計画:<br />
Generally, three to four class hours will be spent for each topic.<br />
By predicting and sharing information, students will be introduced to the<br />
main ideas of a given topic. After listening to the audio material, they will<br />
be asked to synthesize information and react to what they have heard.<br />
Each topic will conclude with student projects such as discussions,<br />
research and presentations. Relevant materials for reading may also be<br />
given whenever appropriate to supplement the listening activity.<br />
Classes will be conducted in English.<br />

授業科目の内容:<br />
The focus of this course will be popular music from the 1960s to the<br />
2000s, including rock, folk, pop, rap and reggae. We will be listening to<br />
the music of many composers, and studying social, political and cultural<br />
themes expressed in their songs. Class activities will include listening,<br />
video viewing, lyrics analysis, discussion, and presenting information and<br />
opinions in English. Homework assignments will include background<br />
reading about songs and musicians, internet research, and completion of<br />
worksheet tasks,<br />
We will also be developing presentation skills, including data<br />
collection, note taking, worksheet design, and speaking using brief notes.<br />
Student presentations each semester will involve working with partners in<br />
song selection, data collection, worksheet preparation, presenting<br />
information and opinions in English, and responding to questions from<br />
other students.<br />

In the first half of each semester, students will be analysing and<br />
discussing a selection of popular songs, and developing skills for<br />
preparing informative song presentations. Student presentations will be<br />
made during the second half of each semester.<br />

essential - weekly attendance, arrival on time, active participation<br />
(listening, speaking, reading, and writing) in English, completion of<br />

participation in English, and homework assignments.<br />

授業科目の内容:<br />
人類の歴史をつうじて、食べ物は、社会的変化、政治組織、地政<br />
学的競争、産業の発達、軍事的紛争、経済的拡大の触媒として、文<br />
明に巨大な影響をおよぼしてきました。この授業では、食べ物と関<br />
連しておこったさまざまな変化が、世界のあちこちの社会のありか<br />
たに、どのように影響をあたえてきたのかを、欧米の一般読者むけ<br />
に読みやすいかたちで概説した啓蒙的歴史書を講読します。講読を<br />
通じて、この授業は、語彙、文構造(文法)、パラグラフ、セクショ<br />
ンなどの様々なレベルにおいて、総合的に英文読解力を伸ばすこと<br />
を目的とします。この目的に資するために、語彙力あるいは熟語力<br />
を延ばす訓練、英文での要約・言い換えなど英語で書く基本的訓練<br />
