Halle A3. Der Verband der italienischen Keramikmaschinenbauer,
Acimac, hatte für 56 Unternehmen eine kollektive Präsentation
„TechGate“ in Halle B3 organisiert, auf einer Fläche
von 2 700 m 2 . Maschinen und Produkte wurden hier aber
region of 2.8% of turnover. This is not sufficient. Over an
average of several years the proportion should amount at
least to four to five per cent.
“Development on the job“ should also be stepped up, i.e. on
the spot, at the customer. However the buyers are hardly prepared
to share the risk involved. Eirich: “Hardly anyone is willing
to venture on prototype plants, which are optimized during
operation in the customer’s works in the first few months,
unless the manufacturer takes over the full risk of failure.” This
often resulted in the customer deciding in favour of the old
but time-tested solution instead of the new one.
Companies which embark on a combined risk develop more
quickly, are always up to date with the state of the art and are
therefore more competitive. Eirich continued: „A little more
pioneer spirit would be a good thing here.“
Visitors and exhibitors
Compared to the event in 2000, the ceramitec 2003 had to
accept a decline in the number of visitors of around 10% and
in the number of exhibitors of around 7%.
The Cersaie as a “tile fair“, which was held shortly afterwards,
surely drew away a few visitors from this sector. The present
difficult economic situation in many countries was probably
another reason. This time in many cases it was the decisionmakers
who visited the exhibition and to a lesser extent the
interested employees, which was confirmed in discussions
with exhibitors. Consequently the quality of the visitors was
assessed as being very high.
While the exhibition got off to a restrained start on Tuesday,
many stands in Halls A1 to A3 were very well attended from
Wednesday to Friday. In Hall A3, altogether 112 exhibitors
operating solely or mainly in the heavy clay machinery and
plant sector presented their products. Further suppliers and
raw material producers exhibited in Halls A1 and A2. Companies
whose main point of emphasis lies in other sectors but
also supply to the heavy clay industry exhibited in Halls B1
and B2.
Some of the exhibitors managed without large-area stands
and the presentation of machinery and plant and instead
introduced new developments for example in video
sequences. The stands were used for intensive discussions
with customers. The exhibition area was significantly smaller
compared to ceramitec 2000. On average the stands in 2003
were smaller than at the last exhibition.
At the ceramitec 2000 the majority of the Italian firms also
presented machinery and plant. This time only the Italian
market leaders and a few smaller firms in the heavy clay sector
had their own stands in Hall A3. The association of Italian
ceramic machinery manufacturers Acimac had organized a
collective presentation “TechGate“ for 56 firms on an area of
2 700 m 2 in Hall B3. However the emphasis of the presentation
was less on machinery and products. The joint stand,
modelled on a typical Italian piazza, was intended to serve as
an ideal location for meetings with customers and visitors.
Many exhibitors spoke of high-quality discussions with top
clients. During the exhibition many contracts were also negotiated
and often concluded. This was assessed at the fair as a
signal for a significant upswing of international demand.
Asked about the countries of origin of the visitors, many
exhibitors in Hall A3 mentioned Russia and Eastern Europe
particularly often, but also the Near East and Middle East,
South America and India. From the point of view of the
exhibitors, the unusually high internationality in international
comparison and the comprehensive range of products were
