The institute of geodesy <strong>an</strong>d navigation<br />
The institute of Geodesy <strong>an</strong>d Navigation is part of the<br />
University FAF Munich <strong>an</strong>d belongs to the faculty of civil<br />
engineering <strong>an</strong>d the study course of geo-informatics <strong>an</strong>d<br />
geodesy.<br />
The institute of Geodesy <strong>an</strong>d Navigation was fo<strong>und</strong>ed in<br />
1983 <strong>an</strong>d is responsible for teaching <strong>an</strong>d research in the<br />
fields of navigation, signal processing, satellite methods,<br />
physical geodesy (including gravimetry <strong>an</strong>d potential<br />
theory), geophysics <strong>an</strong>d geodynamics.<br />
The Institute is working on a wide r<strong>an</strong>ge of applications <strong>an</strong>d<br />
research topics covering theory, system <strong>an</strong>alysis, <strong>an</strong>d<br />
integration with other sensors, algorithms <strong>an</strong>d software<br />
development as well as prototype system development.<br />
Staff<br />
The Institute had a total staff of 32 persons during 2007.<br />
Among the staff are five persons paid by the university<br />
itself. The remaining personnel is paid out of externally<br />
f<strong>und</strong>ed research projects. The latter scientific personnel<br />
consists of full-time employed research associates coming<br />
mainly from five different disciplines, namely aeronautics<br />
engineering, computer science, geodesy, physics <strong>an</strong>d<br />
electronics, in order to come up with the optimal solution<br />
for each task to be performed in the projects.<br />
