The pseudolite group of the institute working on precise
landing approaches is supported by a pseudolite system of
Stanford Telecom (prototype system, C/A code-based) and
an IntegriNautics IN500 (P code-based) which both aid the
flight experiments conducted by the group.

Inertial equipment (SIGMA30, DQTS, Motion
Pak, LN-200)
The research group on GPS/INS integration carries out
experiments using several attitude and heading reference
as well as inertial navigation systems like the Systron
Donner Motion Pak and the Boeing DQTS, the mediumprecise
Northrop Grumman LN-200 (fibre-optic gyros and
micro-mechanical accelerometers) and the precise Sagem
SIGMA30 (3 laser gyros with a drift of only 0.003 degrees
per hour).
Also 3-axis turn tables are available at the institute's inertial
laboratory and serve for the calibration and testing of inertial
and attitude sensors.

The astronomical station is located on the roof of the
laboratory building. It allows star field observations and by
use of a CCD star camera and proper image processing
software, the derivation of astronomical positions and –
together with the ellipsoidal coordinates collected by
GPS-techniques – deflections of the vertical can be

The Institute has access to all data processing facilities
operated by the University. Most standard computing jobs
are carried out using the institute's desktop computer
systems which are connected via a 10/100 MBit/s intranet.
Data storage is centralized in most parts using the file server
system available. Routine data analysis jobs can be carried
out on UNIX servers and work station systems including
a parallel compute server.
Education
In the following the concept of education in navigation at
the institute is described. We take over the students in the
2nd study year after they have undergone fundamental
education in e.g. mathematics, physics and information
technology. Usually they have also successfully passed the
first examination.
