2. Balancing of Brakes [8]
Adjust the length of the brake rod [6] (slight play by the overrun lever [4] is
acceptable).
Actuate Handbrake lever [3] and check the position of the balance
bars [9+10] –> perpendicular to the brake rod.
If necessary correct the position of the balance bar [10] on the cables
and on twin axle trailers where necessary the main balance bar [9] on the
brake rod [6].
3. Brake Rod [6]
Adjust the length of brake rod [6] so that there is neither play nor bias -overrun
lever [4] without play.
Readjustment: Actuate the handbrake lever [3] several times and then gently
pull the lever further in order to set the braking system up correctly. Check
the position of the balance bar [9+10] – right angled position to the towing
direction.
Check the play on the brake rod [6] if necessary readjust the brake rod [6]
so there is no play, but so that it is not under tension.
Check the position of the handbrake lever [3].
Overcentre handbrake lever – resistance should start approx. 10-15 mm
above overcentre.
Ratched handbrake lever - brake effect should begin at approx. the third
tooth.
Check the free running of the wheels with the brakes off.
Final check:
Check all bolts and joints (tighten hexagonal head bolts on transmission
equiment) (Cables, calance bar, turnbuckle, brake rod...)
Test run: If necessary carry out 2-3 test brakes.
Sample brakes: Re-check the play on the overrun lever [4] if necessary
readjust the length of the brake rod [6] so that there is no play – on service
brakes a max. 2/3 overrun permitted.
II. READJUSTMENT OF BRAKING SYSTEM
Adjusting the brakes, this means balancing general lining wear after
adjusting the brakes.
Follow procedure as described under „set up braking system“, check
play at the overrun lever [4] and if necessary readjust.
