Die Stadt Solingen im Bergischen Land
ist bekannt für scharfe Klingen und
schöne Landschaft. Aber das ist längst
nicht alles. Im Stadtteil Gräfrath befindet
sich eine weltweit einzigartige Institution:
die ZDS, Zentralfachschule der Deutschen
Süßwarenwirtschaft. Seit 1951
werden in Solingen Fachkräfte für die
Süßwarenindustrie ausgebildet. Was sich
zunächst Schokoladenmacher, Pfefferküchler
oder Zuckerbäcker nannte, wird
heutzutage unter der modernen Berufsbezeichnung
„Fachkraft für Süßwarentechnik“
zusammengefasst.

The town of Solingen in the hilly Bergisches
Land is famous for its sharp
blades and beautiful countryside. But
that’s not all by any means. In the
district of Gräfrath, there’s an institution
that is unique throughout the world: the
ZDS Central College of the German
Confectionery Industry. Since 1951, specialist
personnel for the confectionery
sector have been trained in Solingen.
What used to be called chocolate makers,
gingerbread makers or sugar confectioners
are now brought together under the
modern professional title of ”specialists in
confectionery technology”.
