In letzter Konsequenz geht esdarum, für eine steigende Anzahl von Menschen zukunftsfähige,lebenswerte – tendenziell urbane – Lebensräume zu schaffen.Die zukünftige Entwicklung der Chemiefasertagung Dornbirn isteng mit einer weiteren Öffnung gegenüber neuen Märkten verknüpft.Zu einem historischen Kern Europa/Amerika/Japan stoßendie oft genannten BRIC Märkte (Brasilien, Russland, Indien, China)aber auch andere aufstrebende Märkte wie Südkorea, Südafrika,Indonesien etc. dazu. Europa verfügt dabei über einen einzigartigenVorteil: es besitzt weltweit das dichteste Netz von Forschungsinstitutenund akademischen Bildungseinrichtungen für Chemiefasernund Grundlagenforschung. Dieses Potenzial gilt es gemeinsammit der Industrie verstärkt für marktkonforme Innovationen zuerschließen. Die Themenpalette ist enorm.Das Produzieren/Konsumieren, die vorerwähnten demographischenEntwicklungen, das Transport- und Gesundheitswesen,Energie- und Wasserversorgung, Nahrungsmittel, zunehmendeMensch/Technik-Kooperationen werden in Verbindung mit gesunderUmwelt, Nachhaltigkeit, Ressourcenschonung, Erneuerbarkeit(Recycling) und vor allem leistbarer Lebensqualität gesehen. Darausergeben sich neue Schwerpunkte in der Forschung aber auchfür die kostenbewusste, sehr leistungsfähige Industrie (von derFaser bis zum Endprodukt). Gesamthafte Betrachtungsweisen z. B.Energiebilanzen, Lebenszyklusanalysen führen zu interdisziplinärenArbeitsgruppen mit Clusterbildungen (auch auf Zeit).Die völlig neuen, modulartig gewonnenen Erkenntnisse können z. B.durch Multiskalensimulationen vertieft werden. Die Umsetzung inindustrielle, marktkonforme Produkte beschleunigt sich – zumeistin kontinuierlichen Anpassungsschritten – unter hocheffizientemEinsatz von Produktionsmitteln.Der Blick in die Natur mit ihrem evolutionär gespeicherten Wissenund Habitaten wird zunehmend die Schwerpunktforschungen undProduktentwicklungen beeinflussen. Dadurch ist eine exponentielleErweiterung unseres Wissens und ein enormer Innovationsschubzu erwarten. Das bisherige Wissensmanagement, das alsDisziplin auf die 90er Jahre zurückgeht reicht für die Zukunft nicht.Wissensmanagement heute gelangt zur Erkenntnis, dass Ressourcenein sorgfältigeres Management benötigen, da Wissensvorsprüngezugleich die (einzige) Quelle für nachhaltige Wettbewerbsvorteiledarstellen.Evolution is our future – The new challenges of our globalised ITsociety and its values require entirely new ways of thinking. At theend of the day, it is our task to create for an ever increasing numberof people a – for the most part urban - environment that holdspromise for the future and is still worth living in.The future development of the DORNBIRN MAN-MADE FIBERSCONGRESS is laregely dependent on how we approach newmarkets. The traditional core markets – Europe, America andJapan – are now confronted with what is often referred to as theBRIC markets (Brazil, Russia, India, China) and other emergingmarkets such as South Korea, South Africa, Indonesia etc. Europecan play one unique trump card: it boasts the closest-knit networkof research institutes and academic institutions in the field of manmadefibers and fundamental research in the world. In cooperationwith the industry we will have to increasingly use this potential forinnovation that meets the demands of the markets. The agendabefore us is an enormous one.Production and consumption, the above-mentioned demographicchanges, transport and health systems, energy and water supply,food production and the increasing cooperation between manand technology are now seen to be closely linked with a healthyenvironment, sustainability, the sparing use of resources, regeneration(recycling) and, above all, an affordable quality of life. Allthis implies a reorientation of both research activities and of thecost-conscious, highly efficient industry (from the fiber to the endproduct). Holistic approaches including energy balances and lifecycleanalyses result in interdisciplinary working groups and theformation of (temporary) clusters.The completely new insights obtained by a modular approach canfor instance be deepened by multiscale simulations. The translationinto industrial products that meet market needs is accelerated –mostly in a continuous step-by step manner – by the highly efficientuse of resources.In the future, a closer look at nature and its inherently evolutionaryknowledge and the variety of habitats will also influence the focalpoints of our research and the development of products. Thus,we can expect an exponential growth of our knowledge and anenormous innovative thrust. Traditional knowledge managementrooted in the ”nineties” will not be good enough for the future.In our day and age, knowledge management has taught us thatresources need to be managed more carefully and, at the same time,that the most important, if not the only, way to ensure long-term60 | 50.
