Weltkrieg. Die heutige Situation ist durch stetig wachsendeProduktionskapazitäten für Commodities in Asien gekennzeichnet. EtablierteFaserhersteller in Deutschland / Europa wurden übernommen oderfragementiert. Aktuelle technologische bzw. wissenschaftliche Perspektivenverfolgen neue Ansätze zum physikalischen Verständnis zentralerWirkmechanismen, die Modifikation bzw. Funktionalisierung von Fasereigenschaftendurch Additivierung und die Verbesserung mechanischerEigenschaften. Weiterhin kommen neue Polymere zum Einsatz undmaßgeschneiderte Eigenschaften für spezifische Nischenanwendungenwerden in den Blick genommen. Effizientere Produktionsprozesse z.B. fürCarbonfasern sind von zentraler Bedeutung. Letztlich werden Hochleistungsfasernals Werkstoffklasse mit hohem Wertschöpfungspotential invielfältigen Anwendungsfeldern zunehmend Bedeutung erlangen.Im Rahmen von Zukunftsanalysen und Foresightprozessen werden Innovationspotenziale,Leit- und Zukunftsthemen für die Forschung diskutiert.Eine Analyse dieser Trends auf die kommende Bedeutung von Hochleistungsfaserfür die europäische Industrie führt zu folgenden Schlüssen:Neue Märkte werden sich entwickeln, neue Anwendungsfelder mit neuenGeschäftsmodellen sich herauskristallisieren. Als Beispiele ist z.B. im Anlagenbauder Umgang mit zyklischen Märkten zu nennen, in der Chemiefaserproduktiondie bewusste Wahl von kleinen Losen als Geschäftsmodellund die Adressierung von Nischenmärkten. Komplexitätsmanagement alsHerausforderung, die Integration von Textiltechnologien in neue Gesamtsystemeoder auch eine neue Marktabgrenzung von textilen Produkten,basierend auf Hochleistungsfasern sind Themen der Zukunft.The first globalization of the man-made fiber production began beforethe First World War. The situation today is characterized by a steadilyincreasing production capacity for commodities in Asia. Establishedfiber manufacturers in Germany/Europe were taken over or fragmented.Recent technological and scientific perspectives are pursuing newapproaches to the physical understanding of central mechanisms,modification or functionalization of fiber properties by additives andimproving mechanical properties. Furthermore, new polymers are usedand tailored properties for specific niche applications are in the focus.More efficient production processes e.g. for carbon fibers are of centralimportance. Finally high-performance fibers will become important as aclass of materials with high potential for added value in diverse fields.Innovation potentials, leading and future topics for research arediscussed as a part of future analysis and foresight processes. Ananalysis of these trends on the future importance of high performancefibers for the European industry leads to the following conclusions: Newmarkets will flourish and new applications with new business modelswill emerge. Examples are in the plant construction to deal with cyclicalmarkets, in the man-made fiber production the deliberate choice ofsmall lots as a business model and addressing of niche markets.
