PUBLIREPORTAGE Pure adventure and relaxation! WELCOME TO THE QUEEN OF THE MOUNTAINS Mt. Rigi is one of Switzerland’s most favourite excursion destinations. The panoramic view from the peak is truly breathtaking. The majestic Alps rise in the south, and the view towards the north reveals the softer Central Switzerland with its charming lakes and even reaches as far as the Black forest (Germany) and the Vosges (France). On the northern slope, another cogwheel railway climbs up from Goldau to the summit, and an aerial cablecar connects Weggis with Rigi Kaltbad. These means of transport provide attractive roundtrips which can easily be combined with a boat cruise on the lovely Lake of Lucerne. SNAP YOUR FINGERS AT DAILY ROUTINE You will never be bored on Mt. Rigi. A colourful programme of public events makes sure that you have a good time up here. In the summer, the visitors can experience genuine Swiss mountain culture e.g. at the folklore festival, at the traditional alpine wrestling championship or at the mountain farmer’s market. In the winter, nightly toboggan rides under the starlit sky or guided snow shoe hikes will leave you exhilarated. Those who wish to experience the nature of Mt. Alternatively, you will discover little known natural treasures of Mt. Rigi on a guided botanical excursion or get enchanted by the famous sunrise of Mt. The elegant Event Marquee at Rigi Staffel is the perfect location for concerts, exhibitions and company events with fantastic panoramic views. DEVOTED TO TRADITION Mt. Rigi has been enchanting visitors from all over the world since the 16th century. First, pilgrims came to the fi ne baroque chapel at Klösterli, and the fi rst wellness tourists were attracted by the healing power of the spring water at Kaltbad. Later, many famous people like e.g. the Queen Victoria of England, Mark Twain, Goethe or the Russian Emperor Alexander visited Mt. Rigi. With the construction of Europe’s fi rst ever mountain railway (1871) and of posh, palacelike hotels, the Queen of the Mountains defi nitely became a unique attraction for the rich and beautiful of the Belle Epoque period. Many engines and passenger coaches of the fi rst years of operation have been carefully restored. Nowadays, Mt. Rigi Railways possesses one of the most colourful and best maintained fl eets of nostalgic railway rolling stock worldwide. For 100 years, the world’s oldest electric cogwheel motorcoach climbs up to the summit, and fancy old passenger coaches from the time of our great-grandfathers offer adventurous rides with breathtaking panoramic views. From 2013, the two noble old ladies, the steam engines No. 16 and 17 will be fi nally back on their tracks again.
