If there is indeed a trend,
then it is authenticity.
Runners are increasingly
well informed and they
don’t get fooled easily.
They are very selfconfident
nowadays and
demand understandable
concepts. The products
have to be credible.
Whether it is about runs
on the trail, the street or
“the moon”. This is the
focus of our brand.
Jan Kratochvil,
Head of Marketing,
Salming
In cooperation with the
Swedish company Qualisys,
Salming developed the Salming
RunLAB, this means a 360°
full-body running analysis.
Eight motion capture cameras
record the entire biomechanics
of the runner with millimetre
precision. Then, the system
compares the recorded data
with the ideal parameters of
comparable top runners. After
that, a running trainer explains
the customer how he can
optimise his running technique.
Furthermore, the runner gets
access to a browser-based
portal where he can check out
the results and videos. The
report does not only include a
comprehensive analysis, but
also an individual training
programme. It offers exercises
which strengthen particular
muscle groups, increase the
mobility and optimise the
running style in a sustaina ble
manner. End consumers
have the possibility to make
the analysis in the Salming
Running Stores in Göteborg,
Stockholm, Raleigh or Zürich
so far. The complete session
takes just about 45 minutes and
is suitable for each person over
15 years.
“In Germany, we newly
presented the system at the
ISPO in Munich and the
feedback was very positive.
Retailers who want to work
with this tool are welcome to
establish contact with us. The
opening took place at the end of
February in Kloten.
The perfect interaction of
all body parts does not only
play an important role in the
Full Body Running Analysis,
Salming developed two further
concepts which are supposed to
support runners in finding the
perfect running technique. “The
customer is well informed and
expects a sound yet compact
explanation why we designed
our shoes this way. The Salming
Running Wheel, an analysis
tool, helps us to do so. It looks
like a hub with five spokes
and we use it to define the
optimum running technique
– the pelvis is the hub in the
centre and posture, lean, arm
swing, cadence and foot landing
sprawl radially from the centre.
In order to acquire an efficient
and injury-free running
technique, these areas have
to be developed accordingly.
In the scientific section of our
catalogue or on our website,
we explain how this does work
in detail. Furthermore, Full
Body Running is our general
approach to understand the
whole concept of running
techniques. In our view, it
does not suffice to observe if
the joints buckle forward or
backward. It is important to
understand the full musculoskeletal
system. This approach
was our motivation to create
the Salming RunLAB”.
