During the mid-1970s Roman Winninger was
the first wind surfer in Amstetten and,in
his father’s shop, sold a private course with
every sold equipment. Whereby the foundation
of his recipe for success is already explained: Not
only mediating the product but also the passion for
the sport. Two of his three sons have followed his
example.Over the last decade they have established
10 branches. Today Winninger, next to Bründl in
Kaprun and Pilz in Gleisdorf, is one of the most
expansive and largest members of the Intersport
Austria.
Roman Winninger explains that it wasn’t a given
his sons would follow in then business, both
originally had other plans. He stresses he didn’t
push them but from the age of 15 they had to assist
in the company. Rainer, the oldest, wanted to work
at a holiday resort as certified tennis teacher and
qualified sports teacher but then the temporary
work in the parental company did become a permanent
one. In the meantime Rainer Winninger
graduated the MBA in science of management and
dedicated his diploma thesis to ‘Liquidity analysis
using the example of Winninger GesmbH’. Manuel
Winninger, the second oldest, graduated commercial
school and already had a secure offer for a job
at the bank. But in the time between his graduation
and the job there were still the Austrian Armed
Forces, and during that time he decided on working
in sporting goods retail which was closer to his
passion than the bank did. Manuel: “It was more
the love for sports. If you like doing sports you also
like working with them.” Directly on joining the
parental company he received an exciting additional
task and was allowed to build up the purchase in
Hungary and Czechia in terms of a service contract
with the Intersport.
