Erst, wer sieht, der glaubt
Seeing is believing
Nun bin ich schon seit sechs Monaten in Deutschland.
Wenn man weit weg von der Familie ist, dann durchlebt
man gute und schwierige Zeiten. Manchmal habe ich
Heimweh, aber durch meine Aktivitäten kann ich das
Gefühl gut überstehen.
Was hat sich seit meinem letzten Bericht getan? Ich
bin nun Mitglied eines Kinderchors, das macht mir
Spaß. Ich erlebe das Leben in Deutschland mit all
den Unterschieden zu meinem sambischen Leben.
Ein neue Erfahrung für mich war zum Beispiel die
Tatsache, dass Jugendliche und junge Erwachsene
ihre Partner mit nach Hause bringen. Das hat mich
zu Anfang schockiert, denn in Sambia ist es eher
unüblich. Was mir besonders gut gefällt ist das System
der öffentlichen Verkehrsmittel. Anstatt lange zu
warten, wie in Sambia, kommen die Busse pünktlich
It is now 6 months that I am staying in Germany
without the presence of my family. Life has been
good and bad sometimes. Life has been good with me
though sometimes I miss my family. I have something
to do to keep myself busy so that I can overcome my
homesickness.
I am now in the choir of young children. Though it has
not been long since I joined, I am all in all enjoying
it. I am experiencing German life and it is different
from the way we live in Zambia. For example, the way
of eating is different in terms of cooking and some
families consider breakfast, lunch or dinner as the
main meal. The upbringing of children is also different:
a child is allowed to bring his or her boyfriend at
home. At first I was very shocked but as the days went
on I got used to it. The mode of transport is what I
like the most. I really like it because it is
very different from ours. The buses and
trains are very punctual: when you come
late you will find it has departed. And they
have also specific bus stops, they don‘t just
stop anywhere.
There are some of things that I really
wanted to see with my naked eyes: things
we do not have in our country or that we
have but in a different way. For example
seeing snow has always been a wish of
mine: now my eyes have been satisfied in
such a way that I even ate it to feel how it
tastes.
The way of celebrating Christmas is really
different from the way we celebrate it. I
enjoyed it, though I missed dancing, loud
music and having fun with my friends.
The Christmas celebration I took part
in here was the first time to experience
that the families meet together, singing
Christmas carols and exchanging gifts.
This kind of celebration was really strange
to me, because we only sing Christmas
carols in church but here they are sung in
the families. And I was glad that I received
Christmas gifts from my host family.
