Majolika-Flasche
Höhe: 28 cm.
Durchmesser: 15 cm.
Castelli, 17. Jahrhundert.
Langhalsige Flasche auf Fußring. Der weiße Fond
ist bemalt mit feinen Ranken und Arabesken in
Schwarz mit gelben Blüten. Die Front ziert eine
Wappenkartusche mit bekrönendem Helm. Im
Wappenfeld eine Schildkröte mit Segel auf dem
Rücken, links eine Sternschnuppe und Band mit
Inschrift "FEST.a LENTE" (lat. für "Eile mit Weile").
Im unteren Drittel läuft ein Feld mit der Aufschrift
"AC D ENDIVIA" (Abkürzung AC wohl für Aceto,
D für di und Endivien) um die Flasche. Bemalung
am Wappen etwas berieben und erg. an
Öffnung.
Anmerkung:
Im 16. Jahrhundert erkor Cosimo I. de'Medici den
lateinischen Ausspruch zum Motto seiner Flotte
und ließ es durch eine Schildkröte mit Segel auf
dem Rücken verbildlichen. Die Schildkröte symbolisierte
durch ihre Langsamkeit die Weisheit,
das Segel stand für die Flotte und damit Taten -
drang.

Bottle with long neck on a foot ring and orna men -
ted with delicate vines and arabesques in black
with yellow flowers on a white ground. At the
front, armorial cartouche crowned by a helmet.
The arms feature a tortoise with a sail on its back,
a shooting star to the left and a scroll reading
FEST.a LENTE (Latin proverb for slow and stea -
dy wins the race). The lower third of the bottle is
banded with an inscription reading AC D ENDI -
VIA (abbreviation 'AC' probably for aceto, D for
di and endive). Slight paint wear on the coat of
arms (restored). Restored rim.
Notes:
In the 16th century Cosimo I. de'Medici made
this Latin proverb his motto and represented it
symbolically in the figure of a tortoise with a
sail on its back. The tortoise's slowness symbolises
wisdom, the sail refers to the dynamic of
the naval fleet.
