Istoriato-Schale auf Fuß
Durchmesser: 27,2 cm.
Verso Inschrift
"NeL canTo VVENTESIMO / SETTIMO - / 1546".
Urbino, 1546.
Über die gesamte Bildfläche ist der Kampf zwischen
Rodomonte mit Ruggiero und anderen zu sehen.
Rechts Zeltstadt mit Soldaten, links in der Ferne
Stadt vor Bergen. In drei Teile gebrochen und rest.
Auf Ober- und Unterseite diskrete Übermalungen
entlang der Bruchkanten, möglicherweise weitere
kleine Schäden verborgen, am Rand kleine Chips
und Glasur stellenweise etwas abge blättert.
Anmerkung:
Als ungewöhnliche, literarische Quelle diente eine
Szene aus "Orlando Furioso" von Ludovico Ariost
(1474 - 1533). Die Inschrift besagt, dass es sich
um den 27. Gesang handelt. In der ersten illustrier -
ten Ausgabe von Gabriel Iolito, Venedig, 1542, wur -
de diese Szene mit einem Holzschnitt illustriert.

Kleiner Majolika-Albarello
Höhe: 18 cm.
Durchmesser: 13 cm.
Pesaro, 15. Jahrhundert.
Kleiner Albarello auf kurzem Fußring, in der Sockel -
zone deutlich eingezogen, mit zylindrischem, leicht
eingezogem Körper, flacher Schulter, engem Hals
und leicht auskragender Lippe. Sockelzone und
Hals zieren Ringe, die von einem Band mit umgedrehten
S-Formen unterbrochen werden. Auf die
Wandung wurde mittig ein Band mit der Beschrif -
tung in gotischen Lettern "elb d(e) hidr E" aufgemalt.
Oben und unten sowie auf der Rückseite zieren
stilisierte Pflanzenornamente in Form von Arabes -
kenranken und Blüten aus drei dicken Punkten die
Wandung. Bemalung in Blau auf weißem Fond.
Schöner Zustand, an den Kanten etwas Glasur ab -
rieb.
Anmerkung:
Die Beschriftung lässt sich wie folgt deuten: "elb"
wohl für "Elleboro", ital. für Nieswurz und "d(e)
hidr" für "getrocknet", also getrocknete Nieswurz.

Small maiolica albarello
Height 18 cm.
Diameter: 13 cm.
Pesaro, 15th century.
Small albarello on short foot ring, tapering base,
cylindrical body, flat shoulder, narrow neck and
everted rim. The foot and neck are decorated with
rings and a band of inverted S shapes. A scroll at
the front of the albarello inscribed in Gothic letters
elb d(e) hidr E. The remaining surface around the
scroll is painted with stylised plant ornamentation
including arabesques and flowers painted as trios
of big dots. Painted in blue on a white ground. Good
condition; minor glaze wear on the edges.
Notes:
The inscription can be interpreted as follows: 'elb'
could be an abbreviation for elleboro, Italian for
hellebore and 'd(e) hidr' for dried, i.e. dried hellebore.

The reverse inscribed

Urbino, 1546.
The entire surface is decorated with a scene of
the fight between Rodomonte and Ruggiero and
others. There is a camp with soldiers to the right
and in the background to the left lies a city in front
of a mountain backdrop. Broken in three parts and
restored. Subtle overpainting along the cracks on
the top and underneath, further minor damage
may be hidden, small chips along the rim and
glazing chipped in some places.
Notes:
A scene from Orlando Furioso by Ludovico Ariosto
(1474 - 1533) served as an unusual literary refe -
rence for this piece. The inscription indictaes that
it illustrates the 27th canto. The first illustrated
edition by Gabriel Iolito, Venice in 1542 illustrated
the same scene in a woodcut.
