auf rasseoffenen Turnieren – eine Leistungsbilanz, die ihm so
schnell keiner nachmacht! Übrigens lagen zwischen der ersten
und dritten Gold-Medaille 10 lahmheitsfreie Jahre – auch das
macht ihm so schnell keiner nach.
EINE IMPOSANTE ERSCHEINUNG
Baikal war nicht nur eine imposante Erscheinung – kraftvoll, athletisch,
mit idealem Körperbau für den Sport – er war auch eine
Persönlichkeit und liebte es, vor Publikum aufzutreten, sich zu zeigen.
Und er war schlau! Tochter Leona erinnert sich noch gerne an
eine besondere Begebenheit, an das Finale im Trail an einer Europameisterschaft
in Stadl Paura: „Doris und Baikal waren genial unterwegs,
das letzte Hindernis war die Brücke. Baikal, der noch nie
verweigert hat, setzte einen Huf darauf, sagte „nein sicher nicht“
und ging rückwärts wieder runter! Ausgeschieden! Das gibts doch
nie! Das hat er noch nie gemacht, warum jetzt? Nachdem der
Bewerb vorbei war, wollte Doris das natürlich nochmal mit ihm
üben. Doch Baikal bleibt beharrlich dabei, dass er nicht über diese
Brücke geht. Nach ein paar Minuten lässt er sich überreden, und
dann bricht die Brücke beim Drübergehen tatsächlich unter ihm

record that no one can easily imitate! By the way, there were 10 lameness-free
years between the first and third gold medals – nobody can
imitate him that easily either.

ist nichts passiert, aber wir könnten schwören, er hatte diesen ‚Ichhabs-euch-doch-gesagt’-Gesichtsausdruck!“
Züchterisch wurde Baikal auf dem Fronleitenhof vor allem mit
Pferdename
Stuten Desert Safanad (4 Fohlen) und Sonora (5 Fohlen) eingesetzt,
von dieser Nachzucht sind auch schon wieder einige sehr
erfolgreich im Sport unterwegs, so zum Beispiel GFH Sandhya
(EM Gold Trail 2019, EM W. Pleasure 2019, EM Silber Dressur 2020,
EM Bronze Trail 2018), GFH Shanna (EM Gold Reining 2015) und
GFH Saguaro (EM Gold Ranch Riding 2022).
Durch Besuche in Scottsdale/USA inspiriert, kaufte Familie Dries
einige Stuten in USA und schickte Gefriersamen nach Übersee
– aus diesen Verbindungen, aber auch durch die Bedeckungen
von Fremdstuten, hat sich nun das Baikal-Blut auch in USA verbreitet und auch hier sind die Nachkommen von Baikal
im Sport erfolgreich, bei weit härterer Konkurrenz.
Anfang Februar 2023 ist nun die Säule des Fronleitenhof im Alter
von 26 Jahren an den Folgen einer Kolik gestorben. Zum Glück
aber hat er durch seine Nachkommen ein gutes Fundament hinterlassen,
auf dem weiter aufgebaut werden kann.

AN IMPOSING FIGURE
Baikal was not only an imposing figure - powerful, athletic, with an ideal
physique for the sport - he was also a personality and loved to perform
in front of an audience, to show himself. And he was smart! Daughter
Leona still likes to remember a special event, the trail final at a European
championship in Stadl Paura: “Doris and Baikal were brilliant, the last
obstacle was the bridge. Baikal, who has never refused, put a hoof on
that bridge and said "No, of course not!" and backed down again! Eliminated!
That has never been the case! He's never done that before, why
now? After the competition was over, Doris naturally wanted to practice
it again with him. But Baikal was adamant that he will not cross this bridge.
After a few minutes he allowed himself to be persuaded, and then the
bridge actually collapses under him as he walks over it! Baikal did a little
hop off the bridge, nothing happened, but we could swear he had that ‘I
told you so’ look on his face!”
In terms of breeding, Baikal was mainly used at the Fronleitenhof with
the mares Desert Safanad (4 foals) and Sonora (5 foals), some of his
offspring are already very successful in sport, such as GFH Sandhya (EM
Gold Trail 2019, EM W. Pleasure 2019, EM Silver Dressage 2020, EM Bronze
Trail 2018), GFH Shanna (EM Gold Reining 2015) and GFH Saguaro (EM
Gold Ranch Riding 2022).
Inspired by visits to Scottsdale/USA, the Dries family bought some mares
in the USA and sent frozen semen overseas - from these connections,
but also through the insemination of foreign mares, the Baikal blood has
now also spread to the USA and here, toom, offspring of Baikal compete
successful in Western sport, against much tougher competition.
At the beginning of February 2023, the pillar of the Fronleitenhof died
at the age of 26 as a result of colic. Fortunately, however, he left a good
foundation through his offspring on which the future can be built on.
