Why provide diffusers?<br />

<strong>Axial</strong>-flow fans generate a total pressure<br />

increase (�pt) which comprises<br />

a static pressure portion (ps) and a<br />

dynamic one (pd). The impeller of an<br />

axial-flow fan consists of blades and<br />

hub located in the airflow. The result<br />

is a circular flow of considerable velocity.<br />

This high flow velocity (c) gives<br />

rise to a high dynamic pressure.<br />

When an axial-flow fan is allowed to<br />

discharge freely into a room, as is<br />

often the case, the entire dynamic<br />

substantially and thereby prevent<br />

In other words, to achieve an otherwise<br />

identical static pressure difference,<br />

the total pressure increase to<br />

be generated can be reduced, and<br />

so can be the output of the fan motor.<br />
