Chapter 4: Data Collection and Event Reconstruction 125<br />

comb<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> measurements from <strong>the</strong> two systems. Tagged muons are <strong>in</strong>ner detector<br />

tracks that have been extrapolated <strong>in</strong>to <strong>the</strong> muon spectrometer and associated with<br />

track segments <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> spectrometer. Calorimeter tagged muons are <strong>in</strong>ner detector<br />

tracks that have been associated with calorimeter energy deposits consistent with a<br />

muon.<br />

There are two <strong>in</strong>dependent algorithms for muon track reconstruction, result<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong><br />

two collections <strong>of</strong> muon tracks as <strong>the</strong> reconstruction output. The families are named<br />

after <strong>the</strong> correspond<strong>in</strong>g standalone reconstruction algorithms: Moore and Muonboy.<br />

In <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g <strong>section</strong>, we describe <strong>the</strong> concept and implementation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Moore<br />

algorithm <strong>in</strong> detail. The Muonboy algorithm, which is conceptually similar to Moore<br />

but differs from it <strong>in</strong> particular aspects <strong>of</strong> implementation, is described <strong>in</strong> brief.<br />

Standalone muon reconstruction<br />

In standalone muon reconstruction, track segments are built us<strong>in</strong>g hits <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

various measurement technologies (see Chapter 2), and <strong>the</strong>n <strong>the</strong> segments are l<strong>in</strong>ked<br />

to form tracks.<br />

Reconstruction by Moore<br />

Muon track reconstruction by Moore (Muon Object-Oriented REconstruction) [6]<br />

proceeds <strong>in</strong> three dist<strong>in</strong>ct steps:<br />

• pattern recognition<br />

• segment build<strong>in</strong>g<br />

• track f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>g and fitt<strong>in</strong>g
