The Roy<strong>al</strong> Ontario Museum (ROM) is Canada’s pre-eminent internation<strong>al</strong> museum and houses<br />
some of Canada’s most important collections in both Natur<strong>al</strong> History and World Cultures. The<br />
Department houses Canada’s largest miner<strong>al</strong> and gem collections, an important m<strong>et</strong>eorite collection, and<br />
a comprehensive p<strong>et</strong>rology collection.<br />

Natur<strong>al</strong> History Department<br />
The ROM invites applications from world-class scholars for the position of the Teck Chair in Miner<strong>al</strong>ogy, to<br />
conduct field and collections-related research, and the strategic acquisition of new specimens, and to present<br />
these holdings through future exhibitions, g<strong>al</strong>lery rotations and public programming. The Teck Endowed<br />
Chair in Miner<strong>al</strong>ogy was established in 2007 thanks to the generous support of Teck Resources Limited.<br />
As a leading contributor to the new, public-facing Centre of Discovery for Earth and Space, the successful<br />
candidate will have demonstrated skills in transfer of scientific concepts and information in a manner that<br />
engages visitors to the museum and the gener<strong>al</strong> public, on site and on-line.<br />
The successful applicant will be expected to: provide dynamic leadership for the Earth Sciences staff; develop a<br />
program of extern<strong>al</strong>ly funded scholarly research and publications; curate and continue building the disciplinary<br />
collection of miner<strong>al</strong>s; and have demonstrated ability and interest in the development and rotation of new<br />
permanent g<strong>al</strong>leries and major exhibitions, traveling exhibits, science education, and public engagement.<br />
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in miner<strong>al</strong>ogy, and be well versed in the geologic<strong>al</strong> sciences; have a record<br />
of scholarly publication in peer-reviewed journ<strong>al</strong>s; be qu<strong>al</strong>ified for cross-appointment to the University of<br />
Toronto; and be eligible for NSERC funding in support of research (i.e., a proven record of successful grant<br />
applications). Experience in a museum or equiv<strong>al</strong>ent environment is preferable.<br />
S<strong>al</strong>ary and years in rank are commensurate with experience, as stipulated in the Collective Agreement<br />
b<strong>et</strong>ween the ROM and ROM Curatori<strong>al</strong> Association.<br />
