At Lamaze, pregnancy yoga classes and young mother groups, the author approached the
women personally to tell them about the study. Also here, everyone was provided with the
same form. An example of the form can be found in the appendices. The women who had
filled in these forms, were contacted 2 to 4 weeks after the due date to schedule an
appointment for the investigation.
The measurements of the study were conducted in the period from May 2012 to June 2012.
The women were expected to visit Cindy Verheul’s Practice for Osteopathy in Heerlen.
Where following actions took place in chronologic order:
They were first welcomed by Karin Dormans of the text and communication office
“Helder”. Karin explained and handed over the “informed consent” that all women have
signed.
They were asked to fill in their personal data including body length, body weight and the
date of birth of the baby.
Complete the Dallas Pain Questionnaire.
The clients were led to the treatment room and Karin Dormans told them explicitly to
conceal any evidence of complaints, as this would disrupt the investigation. (all the
women did as far as I could judge).
The women were asked to get rid of clothes up to the underwear.
The research position was supine on the examination couch where Cindy Verheul did
physical examination consisting of:
o the ASLR test
o hip extension
o hip abduction
o hip adduction
o hip external rotation
o hip internal rotation
o pubis test.
The test specifics were:
The hip extension was performed by pushing against the treatment table.
The ASLR test was performed against gravity.
The other hip tests were carried out against manual resistance.
The pubis test was a pressure test. This pressure was given by the therapist.
