6.2.3 Diagnostic methods
It is also the aim of this study to create more clearness related to the performed diagnostic
tests for pelvic instabilty. Therefore some more ins and outs on these tests.
DPQ
The DPQ is used to determine whether the women have lower back or pelvic complaints. As
a diagnostic tool, this questionaire has been proved to be valid. (Lawlis et al 1989; Ozguler
et al 2002) Because the physical and emotional capacities mapping, a comprehensive
picture of the pain status of the patient is given. Mens et al. describes in his book that
emotions and fatique can affect pelvic instability. (Mens January 2009) Although this is not
scientifically proven, it seems sensible that the emotional aspects are involved in the
research at the human being is a unit of body, psyche and mind. Therefore these elements
should be involved in the research as much as possible.
In this study, a score above zero is considered as a positive score on the DPQ. This is
perhaps a too broad threshold as women with minimal symptoms fall also in the group of
positive DPQ. It is to be considered that t is common for women in the period from 3 to 11
weeks postnatal, to still experience complaints due to childbirth. These women will not score
high on the DPQ, but wil fall in the positive DPQ group anyway. For women where it is
expected that they experience severe complaints a higher score and a score on more than
one item is to be expected. If the threshold would be a score of more than one item, a
smaller group of women would be selected and therefore more clarity in relation to the
scores on the physical tests. In particular, the physical tests that have been added to the
ASLR test need to be clarified. Until now there has never been a study performed with the
additional tests for pelvic instability as used in this study. Hopefully it will make this study
groundbreaking research and might it lead to new insights into the formation of an efficient
test battery. These tests are easy to implement in practice and do not cost much time. Also
the relevance of the ASLR test is illuminated by the other test..
Functional tests
Regarding the ASLR test it is clear that this test good for specifity. However, with respect to
the sensitivity that this is questionable. This is in contrast to what Mens et al describe. (J
Mens et al 2001; January MA Man et al 2012) The sensitivity score is 62-66%. at a ASLR
