(all the women did as far as I could judge). The women were asked to get rid of clothes up to the underwear. The research position was supine on the examination couch where Cindy Verheul did physical examination consisting of: o the ASLR test o hip extension o hip abduction o hip adduction o hip external rotation o hip internal rotation o pubis test. The test specifics were: The hip extension was performed by pushing against the treatment table. The ASLR test was performed against gravity. The other hip tests were carried out against manual resistance. The pubis test was a pressure test. This pressure was given by the therapist. These physical tests were first performed without compression to the pelvis and subsequently compression on the pelvis was applied by the author while the resistance to the movements were carried out by a physical therapist. After the study the women had the opportunity to ask questions. As a token of thanks of their participation to the research they got a small funny wrapped gift for the baby, with a thank you card. The collected data was stored in an Excel spreadsheet and subjected to a statistical analysis. The results will be presented in the results section. The participants were not initially asked whether they had given birth to their first, second, third or fourth child. As I thought this might be important for the results as well, I have chosen to approach all participants once again. I called all the women and asked if they have given birth to the first, second, third or fourth child. Luckily I could reach all women and did get the required answers. The literature study was immediately after the decision on the prevalence investigation. This provided valuable information. This study formed the basis for achieving the title: Bachelor of Science and the background for this thesis. 4.3 Volunteers Population As described in section 4.2. The population for this study was gathered in different ways via midwives, yoga and gymnastic (Lamaze) classes for pregnant women and young mother care groups. During meetings, the purpose and methods of the investigation wer explained. Forms were handed out and on the bottom of this form there was a registration slip which could be completed and handed over when the woman wished to participate in the study. On this strip was the due date of birth and also the potential participant’s phone number. Each participant meets following inclusion and exclusion criteria: Inclusion criteria: All participants were at the time of the study: o 12 weeks postpartum o Not pregnant o Can read and understand the Dutch language.
